[OTA]: Putting yourself on auto-pilot

Jul 01, 2012 01:05

With all the hullabaloo of a Diamond/Spade wedding, and a new Diamond King, along with his own Suit's ebb and flow, Rylan needed to take his mind off things. Video games weren't cutting it, and he didn't feel like requisitioning off-Deck time, just to chase a piece of tail he'd forget as soon as they left ( Read more... )

Where better to visit when Amy was wanting company that wasn't work-related than Club Castle, which housed her best friend in the Deck? No, she couldn't think on that for too long, but the point stood that she wanted to see him.

All one really had to do to find him at this hour was follow the sound of grunts once one got near the gym. Push the door open and there he was. She watched for a second, then moved a little closer. The cast was off, but her arm looked like it had been squished in comparison to the other one -- and for all intents and purposes, it had been. The atrophy was minor, but present. And annoying.

"Hey baby," she said when the grunts took a pause. "Rough day?"

Punch, punch, punch, duck, punch, punch, elbow, punch, knee... Rylan went through a routine in his mind, drifting half in and out of focus as his body responded, the shock of each hit rolling up his arm and being absorbed by the momentum into the next move.

His mind noted a presence, but it was on the peripheral of his thoughts as he kept moving, kept hitting-- until he stopped.

The voice had him turning, a half-smile on his face as he lifted a hand to wipe away the sweat on his face. "Hey Ames. What's up?"

She let a smile come to her own face as she grabbed a towel and tossed it over -- still with her left hand, instinctively babying her right. "Same as usual: up late and nothing to do, since I'm not a guard." She didn't even sound bitter about that anymore. She was just happy that it was in her future, that she'd be back someday, and she was happy to be out of the damned cast. And there was no denying that working alongside the Ace came with its perks.

"What's got you up, babycakes?"

He shrugged as he wiped his face with the towel, slinging it around his neck and holding the ends as he looked at her. "I was feeling restless and couldn't sleep. Hoping I could work myself into exhaustion."

Elani's brief phase of trying to beat up punching bags is over but she still comes down to the gym to keep in shape. And now that she's got her eye on a new discipline that obviously will require a goodly amount of strength, it seems to make sense that she work in a routine to further that while she waits for one of the Deck metalsmiths to figure out how to make her a hoop.

But she'll smile at Rylan as she sees him and before she starts her own workout. Because that's the polite thing to do, and all. "Hi, Rylan."

He's so wrapped up in his routine, he almost misses the greeting; but he registers it belatedly, turning and giving Elani a smile and nod. "Hey sunshine. What's a girl like you doing in a gym like this, hmm?"

She smiles back at him and waves at the exercise equipment, "well you know, girls like me like to get workouts too...."

Silly man.

"Pff... you don't need to work out. You're perfection already, sunshine."

Addy wasn't in the gym, for once, to punch holes in his own punching-bag. Or try to, anyway. He was, for once, there because...habit just guided his feet when he wasn't thinking. The sight of Rylan, though, did make him stop long enough to consider if he wanted to slip out again unnoticed and not disturb the man- or just take up a seat somewhere.

Honestly, Fin probably wouldn't miss him if he didn't show up in the library any time soon.

"What'd the punching bag ever do to you?" he asked as he straddled a bench and stared at Rylan.

Looking over at the other man, Rylan huffed and punched the bag harder. "It exists to have its butt kicked. What kind of ass would I be if I didn't let it achieve its goal?"

The huffing didn't phase Addy all that much, he only shrugged and pulled out a pack of cigarettes with a contemplative look on his face. "A less frustrated one?" He suggested with a slightly rye expression. "Was thinking of dragging Fin out for some drinks later, if you'd care to join us."

That had Rylan stopping, suddenly laughing breathlessly as he looked over at Addy. "You're shitting me, right? Didn't he tell you about the last time I dragged him out-- no, forced him out of his little hidey hole?"

Tegan, for her part, has tentatively began to resume her regular exercises -- nothing too strenuous, of course, but enough that she'll feel almost like she's getting back to her old self again. She needs that now more than ever.

He looks up when she comes in, grunting out a hello and giving her a nod. "S'up, Teegs."

"Hey," she says by way of greeting. Dafydd has, by this time, told her about his plans to leave -- she can't fault him, really. It's an amazing opportunity -- and Frankie, too, will be leaving soon, and perhaps she's feeling just a little bit at sea right now.

The gym -- second only to the kitchens, really -- has always been her safe place. A place to go to forget about things for a while. "Fancy seeing you here."

"Nothing fancy about it, Teegs. Can't sleep, so what better way to get tired than to beat the shit out of something?"
