[OTA] Pieces of the puzzle

Tegan is in her office -- that, in itself, is probably not all that unusual -- pouring over all the information they've managed to gather from the Outpost attacks. Occasionally she will pause, scrawling notes onto a second piece of paper ( Read more... )

Tegan, there is an Elani in your door and she's looking like she might need to Mother. Payback and all that.

"You look hungry."

"Oh, um -- " there is a tray ...somewhere but it's empty. She should probably eat, especially if she's going to be sitting there staring at things until they do the considerate thing and make sense.

So far it's not working. "I could probably eat."

That would be the correct answer and earns a smile. "How does tortellini pasta sound?"

Because that's what she'd already made in her little kitchen in her rooms. For the record.

She's already clearing away everything from the top of her desk, putting it back into the top drawer. "That sounds great, 'Lani --" a smile, pasta had always been a favourite and right now she could probably do with the extra energy " -- thank you."

Have a soft knock and a head peering at you, Tegan. Sandy looks concerned as she studies the Jack pouring over the pieces of the puzzle they do have. "Howdy do, Tegan."

"Sandy, hey." She looks up from the photograph -- the fallen soldier with the curious marking -- and manages a smile. "Everything okay?"

She slips fully inside the office, carrying two bottles of water with her and setting one on top of Tegan's desk away from the paper. She then takes a seat adjacent to the Jack before setting into the chair. "Yeah, things are doing well on my side. I'm glad the festival is over, I have some time now." A pause, "And you?"

"Did you have fun?" And, see, it's possible to ask about one's friend's not-date without actually asking about it. Although, have a pointed look at the blouse Adare -- "Isn't a little...warm for high-collars?"

"Hey." Her voice is quiet, but carrying, as she knocks a little on the doorframe before stepping into the room. "What are you looking at?

"Hmm?" Tegan looks up from the report, surprised to see that she isn't alone any more but offers Blythe a polite smile nonetheless. "Oh, just the usual. Every time I turn my back, everything seems to multiply."

"Tell me about it. I've had so much coffee in the past few days - enough to make sure that I'm definitely not sleeping tonight." She laughs, a little embarrassed. "How've you been?"

"Plenty of time to sleep when you're dead, as they say." The smile turns wry. "Good, I've been...I've been good. Things are finally starting to settle."

She still hadn't moved into her new office or rooms yet, though. Somehow the time never quite seemed right, and there was still the not so small matter of Lancelot's things. She hadn't quite figured out what to do with them yet. "And you?"

Elisha is not the person you expect to see with grilled cheese and tomato soup - though it's good grilled cheese and tomato soup, with gruyere on the sandwich and San Marzano tomatoes in the soup - but nonetheless, here he is, sliding it onto the desk. "We can't both burn the midnight oil at the same time," he says, "and I'm fairly sure it's my turn tonight."

Nourishment of any sort is probably a good idea, all things considered; it's been one of those days where the hours just slip by without bothering to inform you first and still...still she hasn't made much progress.

"Clearly we should split it --" the time and the food, since obviously two heads are better than one. "I spoke to the Tower." Not that this is all that much of a surprise, she'd practically glued herself to his side as soon as the opportunity arose.

He won't argue with half of his own grilled cheese, honestly, taking it as he sinks into the chair across from his desk. It wasn't that long ago, he reflects, that he was sitting here explaining the principles of intelligence gathering to Lancelot. And now look at the Clubs.

Lance is just shaking his head somewhere. "How'd that one go?" Elisha asks out loud. "I've not had the opportunity."

"Enlightening," she says. It would be a lie to say that at least part of it wasn't curiosity -- he'd managed to make quite a name for himself even before his possible connection to the Outpost attacks -- but she wasn't about to let that get in the way of common sense. She picks up her own half of the grilled cheese, leaning back in her chair.

"I get the impression that he is about as happy to be here as we are to have him, though he covers it better than one would expect."
