[OTA] The rabbit has done died.

She had really, sincerely, truly been hoping that she had the flu. Even though she was virtually never ill and there was no virus going around the Deck, she'd mostly convinced herself she had one and she'd be over it in a week or so. The five pregnancy tests just had been because she'd been curious about how they worked. But given every single one ( Read more... )

Blythe leans against the back of the bench as she spots Urania looking out over the Green. She'd been taking a walk herself to clear her mind (and also search for that thermos she'd lost last week...), but the older woman looks like she needs a clear mind a lot more than Blythe does. She pauses, then sits down next to Urania.

"Hey. How are you?"

"Okay." She smiles a little over at Blythe, brushing a hand through her hair. They hadn't really talked all that much before Urania got reassigned to HR, but she knew Blythe was one of Isaac's friends.

Which meant she was probably going to get flailed at at some point. "How are you?"

"Oh, you know. Life is life." Not good yet, but not entirely bad. Blythe looks out, smiling as one of the kids trips a little in her haste to chase after the rubber duck. "Aren't they adorable?"

"...Yes." She has to admit that much, at least, and maybe her child will be less rambunctious. It could take after Isaac more than her largely vicious and slightly arrogant side.

Hope. It's springing eternal. "Although I've never seen anyone argue over a rubber duck before, I have to say."

"It's a kid thing. All children go through it. It's about the time when they need a helpful older hand to teach them how to do productive things, like climbing trees and throwing apples at people they don't like." Blythe grins to herself, leaning back against the bench. "But you didn't hear that from me. I was obviously a very well-behaved kid."

"Oh, those are the productive things," Urania says, and the smile goes a little less uncertain as she looks over at Blythe. The two of them are about the same height. Blythe might be an inch taller. "Is that what you'd teach younger brothers and sisters, if you had them?"

"How to have fun? Yeah. Might as well teach it to kids early. We all know that we forget what's like too fast." Blythe shrugs a shoulder, turning to her. "That, and turning cartwheels is absolutely the most important thing for any child to know how to do."

"Yeah, we definitely do." Urania's childhood hadn't been bad, honestly. Their parents had been ambitious and calculating - but they'd been old Spades, that was to be expected - but they had actually loved their daughters. "I'm going to tell you something," she says. "Isaac might too, later."

"Hmm?" Blythe crosses one leg over the other, tilting her head a little to one side. "What is it?"

"I'm...well, Isaac and I." Urania pauses more for breath than effect. "We're having a baby. And getting married."

She was getting married. Mother of whatever.

"--What?" They're getting married. "Oh my god." They're having a kid. "Oh my god! -Oh my gosh." Impulsive hugs are a go. "Seriously? Oh my- I don't even know what to say!" Hands go to cheeks in a flurry. "That's wonderful, Urania, congratulations!"

Hugging. Oh God. But in truth, Urania does handle the impulsive affection thing a little better, and she hugs back. "Thanks," she says with a little half smile. "It's all been a little bit of a surprise."

Fair warning: Of the pair, Urania will have to deal with the majority of the affection from the force of nature that is Blythe Merrick. She's not exactly about to hug Isaac. "I can imagine. Oh, I'm so excited for you. Did you just find out recently? -Isaac proposed?"

She'll probably be able to handle it. The baby will definitely be able to handle it. This is still new. She's hardly able to think of the baby as a baby instead of...extra cells. But when he or she is around, she wants them to have fun. She doesn't think Isaac did, much. And neither did she. "Today," she says. "And, er. Today."

"Oh my gosh. Congratulations - again." Blythe hesitates, then reaches for her hand. "How are you feeling? Like, seriously?"

Ugh. Urania makes a face, but not at Blythe. "Nausea. Constantly for the last week. I've never drunk so much tea in my life, and you know how we drink tea." She sighs then. "Kind of scared, though," she adds. "This is...a lot of new."
