Little Six, Little Six, Watch where you go~

May 05, 2012 08:10

Someday, thinks Sophie, she'll learn not to talk to herself. If she never talked to herself, she never would have spoken to the Fool in town, never would have mentioned the dratted Mary Poppins movie, never would have taken him to an electronics store to purchase a television so he could watch said movie. But it's not her bad habit that's put her ( Read more... )

"Miss Berthier. So good to see you again."

Hope you weren't expecting to run into Stultus first, Sophie. But at least he isn't Burke, yes?

Manners get her by when all else fails. Sophie smiles warmly and extends her hand.

"Sophie, please, Mister Asarlai. Thank you for having me."

She eyes her surroundings curiously. Her only other visit had been to witness the show put on by the man in front of her. "I brought some books Christophe might like. He says you and he have been reading the ones Dr. Frankie supplied."

"Gustave, then, if we are to be on a first-name basis, Sophie." Have a smile, Sophie, as he shakes your hand and shows you in to a parlor.

"Christophe will appreciate the books, I'm certain, and yes, we have. Please, sit down, would you like some tea?"

"Will you walk into my parlor?" said the Spider to the Fly. Sophie's lips twitch just a little, more at her own reactions than to Gustave.

"Tea would be lovely. Thank you. I hope you'll enjoy the books, as well. What do you enjoy reading? I'll keep an eye out for something more your taste."

Asarlai nodded to a nearby waiting servant to fetch the tea as he settled across from Sophie. "Thank you, but that really isn't necessary, I assure you. Particularly not when I've got the reading with Stultus to keep me occupied." And their newest addition though there was no friendly reading happening there, of course.

"Let me know if you change your mind. It's part of what I do, after all." Sophie folds her hands primly in her lap, good hand over bad, and crosses her legs at the ankles. "And Ms. Sacerdotessa and Mr. Turis? What do they enjoy reading?"

She watches him carefully. He's very good at not showing reactions, but she can hope.

"Certainly not the same thing." What, was that not directed at him? Was he not supposed to be in the room? Ridiculous.

This isn't one of his own buildings. It's Gustave's, which means the Embassy itself--bricks and mortar and all--is less than friendly to him. That doesn't mean Burke doesn't still have the ability to fade somewhat into and out of the landscape, the walls, the world at large like an existing structure. It's simply the way of him.

"And, frankly, I don't read particularly much, I must say."

Sophie starts at Burke's sudden appearance. Thank goodness the tea had yet to arrive. When had he gotten here? No matter. Let them think it was surprise at his appearance. She would not would not would not remember that dratted nursery rhyme.

"Goodness! You move quietly, Mr. Turis. What hobbies do you enjoy then?"

Small talk. She'd studied this once, in another life long ago. She can do this. She focuses on not stretching her fingers, not clenching one hand around the other before giving it up as lost cause. She smiles at both men.

"I'm afraid I'm a little...shy? I don't often have the opportunity to meet new people."

One over-large hand is lifted, waved absently. No need to excuse herself. All friends here, right?

"I'm afraid I'm not certain I have one, Sophie." See? He had been listening, paying attention. For an indeterminate amount of time previous. "My free time is spent in the building, not the tinkering."

Sophie sifts the words in her head. In the building could be interpreted more than one way. From what she recalled about tarot properties, "tinkering" might very well be a jab at the Magician.

"You enjoy making things?" Not a pastime she would guess for the Tower.
