Come one, come all...storytime with the Arcana

Mar 14, 2012 20:51

As the sun set it became rather apparent that it wasn't only the sun's rays that had lit up the Embassy so it seemed to glow. No, there was plenty of light of its own shining out of all of its windows of colored glass, making it a rather cheerful beacon in the night ( Read more... )

This would actually be the first time Julien's set foot on Arcana land but it had seemed past high time for him to just come and see the place for himself. So he'll be in one of his best suits and not at all making a secret of looking at everything.

"A far cry from the other castles, I'd say." It's an idle remark, meant more for the ears of the Arcana servant nearby. Just because they were servants didn't mean they didn't keep their ears open, surely.

"Oh, it is. Pretty, I suppose but..." he waved a hand and shrugged. "Insubstantial?" Despite the size. And the fact it was clearly solid. There was just something about it that didn't feel quite real. Though perhaps that was only due to the way it had appeared.

"And what do you think we'll be getting out of tonight, then?"

Because apparently a mutual enemy (let's not be coy, of course that's how Julien sees them) means he can be polite without extra edges to Säde. At least for a time.

It's appreciated, Julien. Really. "Insight, if not a lot of information. Or at least, not any information that can be confirmed or corroborated."

Because whatever might be said, it was possible- if only marginally- that it was only a pretty tale to win the trust of the Deck.

"Just like everything else about them," he mutters sourly.

Eventually, after speaking to Sieben, Zoe will drift towards the Ace and nod at a window in the entry. "That one is the one Stultus pointed out particularly," she says.

As directed, Julien turned his attention to the window she indicated and looked at it critically before turning back to her. "It is quite the difference, isn't it?"

Rather...rustic compared to the building they stood in now.

"Than this? Yes. " It made her wonder just how old the Arcana and Deck were. "I wonder if it wasn't built in the same way."

Meaning with the Magician's magic, of course, whoever that Magician was. Hopefully not this one; she wasn't ready for immortality to be a reality.

"Makes you wonder if they know how to actually build anything."

Did they use this magic for everything?

Did he really have to admit that they were using magic?

Why were things never simple?

Zoe's lips curved faintly. "I'm not sure they all can. It might only be Asarlai." He was the Magician, after all. And the Fool had said something to Sandy about not being as good at the windows, so she doubted he could do the same thing.

"Well. That would be something, at least." He only sounds faintly mollified.

But then, he isn't the Spade diplomat so he doesn't have to paste a smile on his face for the sake of making nice here.

She has to admit, if only to herself, that she would pop popcorn to watch Oliver be diplomatic. Somehow it doesn't strike her as going smoothly. But smooth going hasn't worked so well so far.

"How much longer do you think they'll wait?" Before storytime.

"Surely not too much longer. I imagine they're waiting to see if there are any stragglers."

She nods. She'd want to halt the speculation, if she were them, but she's not. "I'll be interested to hear what he has to say."

His smile is humorless but he does nod. "Don't we all?"

Why else were they there?
