They had promised to split up. And Christophe was definitely not pouting. Because if he were pouting, Gustave was bound to make fun of him.
But Gustave wasn't here, because they had decided to split up. So maybe he was pouting.
Though, admittedly, Christophe's version of pouting included waving cheerily at absolutely everyone he passed, and buying whatever any food vendor near him was selling as he wandered through the town.
So, really, only Gustave would have been able to tell he was pouting.
