Honeymoon 1X22 Talk

I adore the USA reruns, reminds me why I fell in love with the cranky doctor with a limp and pain (management) problem. 'Honeymoon' is one I watched a few times, it's painful and I want to give House a big hug. Speaking of hugs, Cameron really could use one too.

First scene, instead of being a cold open of our PoTW, focuses on House dining with Stacy. Immediately, she is sharp, sarcastic, and deceiving, Remind you of anyone? However with Stacy, for me at least, she lacks that je ne sais quois that makes those qualities likable in House. She's too pointed, barbed, too destructive. Wherever she goes, major trouble seems to follow. Especially for the men in her life! The last two men she's with lose the ability to walk unaided... someone check her junk for gold!!

House/Stacy isn't pretty to watch. Some say that she's the only woman who can keep up with him, the only one to keep him interested and the only one he'll ever love. Those people see House in a different light than I do. Their relationship is like a tornado, rushing in with very little warning, spinning out of control and leaving behind a barely recognizable landscape.  Problem is, after your life has been destroyed by a tornado once, you're more likely to go running full-speed in the other direction when it rains.  Cameron is more like the rain.  Soothing, gentle, calming, but not without some lighting and thunder.

One of my favorite scenes occurred between House and Stacy, the very poignant moment when they argue over Mark's choice to decline the trigger cocktail to confirm House's latest (and thankfully, accurate) diagnosis.  Everything is laid on the table here; how a piece of House may not want Mark to make it through, how Stacy is once again going against her significant other's medical wishes in her attempt to save their life, how deeply House resents Stacy for her betrayal of him, how ultimately House will never forgive Stacy and how Stacy found herself a safer choice in life partner, because Mark indeed will forgive her for her medical betrayal of him.

In the end, we have quite a complicated and twisted love quadrangle: House is Stacy's 'one', but she can't be with him because of their tornadic ways.  She choses the safe route with Mark, who has to come to terms with House having saved his life.  House does still love Stacy, but his resentment is stronger and he will never forgive her.  Cameron loves House, but now believes she will never compete with his affection for Stacy.  House choses the safe route as well, as the episode and first Season close with House living with his vices at home, alone but for his pain and reminder of the complete destruction his last relationship left in its path.
