Most days he’s grateful for it, the distance that this latest regeneration provides…

Excruciating pain, dampened to a dull ache.

At times he forgets it (almost) entirely.

The forgetting hurts more than the remembering. Because it means he’s lost her again.

At the best of times, her presence is like a phantom limb. Like his leg has been amputated, but he still feels the ache of it when it rains.

And it’s always bloody raining.

At least the pain lets him know he’s alive.

It strikes him, just how much worse it could be, when Amy loses Rory.

Rory dies. Amy forgets.

And she doesn’t even know what she’s lost.

He never thought he would be so happy for the pain. Well, he’s been wrong before.

She’s a thorn in his side, his Rose.

But then, he’s been something of a masochist since “Run.”
