First: I live under a rock. It is called grad school.
Second: I think I may have happened upon a band that most everyone I know will like. I read about them in the Express on the metro today. They are called
Winterpills. You can listen to many of their songs in totality on aforelinked website. It seemed a good sign when the article described their music as a blend of Iron & Wine, Elliott Smith, and Neutral Milk Hotel. Personally I think it's really good.... incidentally, they are playing at the IOTA club in Arlington on Saturday night, opening for somebody I've never heard of's CD release party. Perhaps a trip is in order for us locals? It'd be a nice change from sitting around trying to take over the world like always. ;)
Third: What little time I don't spend doing something related to school or work I now spend dancing. Yay for exercise that's so fun I look forward to it all week. I've been attending swing dances regularly on Tuesday nights, and last Sunday re-stumbled upon blues dancing. Blues dancing is quite possibly the best thing ever. Le sigh. The scene is rapidly developing in DC and I am happy to take advantage of it. If any of you loyal readers would like to join me, I would love love love that. (Everyone starts out knowing nothing, so don't let that be your excuse!)
Fourth: A monumental decision: I have decided not to pursue jobs in school counseling, despite that being the focus of my degree. The reasons are myriad and I'll explain them to you if you like --- in a nutshell, I knew it just wasn't right when the thought of writing my cover letters turned my stomach. They would have been a pack of lies. I just don't like it enough to muster up the dedication that would be necessary to do it right. And I also don't feel ready to be immersed in so much...emotion...all the time (read: fear of engulfment). Instead, I'm looking into the writing/editing world (preferably in the psychology, mental health, or education fields), or perhaps human resources. So if your third cousin's brother's wife's step-niece's great aunt knows someone who's hiring for such a position, let me know.
Points to those of you who caught the reference.
