sweet jesus on a piece of toast

My LJ friends page is my homepage, so I look at it quite frequently. Often I think to myself, "I should update." And then I ponder all the time required to do so, and I put it off til tomorrow. Repeat for several weeks, then finally muster up ability to write.

Things of import:

1) At long last, I have joined a choir! Those privy to the goings-on of my busy dream-life know that dreams of missing choir, being late to choir, forgetting to go to choir, etc, have plagued me ever since leaving W&M. No longer! I am now a member of the Georgetown Chorale. (No affiliation with the university.) I went to the audition last Wednesday excited and reasonably confident, even warmed up (!), although the usual jitters danced in my stomach as soon as my name got called to go into the sanctuary of the church where the auditions/rehearsals/concerts are held. Everyone seems super-nice, and our main piece will be the Vivaldi Gloria that I am 97% certain we sang at W&M a few years back (junior year, I think). They're even letting me forgo member dues because I'm uber-poor. The first rehearsal is on Wednesday and I'm excited to see just exactly what I've gotten myself into....

2) I started working at Washington-Lee High School as a counselor intern. I even have an official ID badge and a gangked parking pass. The students are wonderful and I'm a little bored because there's not a terrible lot for me to do yet. But I'm excited about what there will be to do, and so far it looks like a pretty sweet gig. All the other counselors (eight in total, plus random other staff, plus one other GW intern) rock my socks, as well as my triceratops lunchbox. (Yes, you heard it right, triceratops lunchbox. Pics when laziness capitulates to pic-sharing desire.) For those of you for whom the facebook stalker-feed wasn't enough, I work at W-L on Mondays, Tuesdays, and some Fridays (tbd).

3) I got into murky waters on half.com! I've never had a problem with half.com before, but one of my buyers never received a book I sent more than a month ago. I distinctly remember sending it, because her address was so strange....living on "Boston" (no "st" or "ave" etc) in Seattle. It hasn't arrived, and it hasn't bounced back to me.... The best solution I have come up with is that I will refund her the money on the condition that if it does ever show up, she send it back to me so I can try to sell it again. There's no real accountability if it gets lost (no shipping insurance/tracking, stupid me), except that I'm the one who gets money docked should one go through the official "Buyer Protection Policy" channels. This fact, of course, is carefully shrouded in pages of circuitous menus. And the post office has no official guarantee on how long media mail takes. Suckage.

4) Jason (a.k.a. "pookie bear") came to visit this weekend! It was wonderful. I am sad he is gone. We saw "Little Miss Sunshine" which was great. You will like it. Perhaps as much as I like my Jason, but probably not.
