The R exercise

Sep 24, 2006 20:26

Just to prove that The Clinic's friendly mods have not completely disappeared under the morass of real life, we've cooked up a little exercise. Because we love puns, it's the R exercise. Dispensing instructions are as follows:

We have 15 words, all starting with the letter "r". They are: reciprocate, reason, respect, report, robbery, redeem, race, rest, rich, rise, robe, ripen, roses, root and room. Use at least five of them (or any group of five) in the story, either as interconnected themes or significant points in the narrative.

The stories can be any length, and there's no deadline. As always, we remind you that the purpose of these exercises is to stretch your skills and get you to write outside your comfort area. So be brave and try something new. It can be a tense you've never worked in before, creating a plausible original character, or taking a different established character's point of view.

Please post a link to your finished work in the comments section below. If you're a drive-by visitor and use this idea elsewhere, please credit The Clinic for originating it. And a link is a thoughtful thing to do.

Happy writing!
