This is perhaps more of a formatting question but I think it fits pretty well with The Clinic so I thought I'd ask since it's been bothering me. At what length should one break a fic into multiple parts? As a companion to that, is there a minimum limit to the length of a chapter? I've seen some people say that a chapter counts as 1,000 words minimum and anything else is a single part fic yet others say anything over 500. So when would you break a fic into multiple posts/chapters?
I know that as a reader I don't mind if the author puts in a fic that is greater than 5000 words or hitting the post size limit into a single post instead of breaking it up because it's easier to have the whole story in one place than to have to find the other parts. On the other hand, I can see where that much text can look a little daunting. So is there some specific etiquette that covers this is or is up to the author's discretion?
Last question, I promise, if the chapters are short, say between 1,000 to 2,000 words, should you post a)several chapters as one post or b) each chapter as a separate post with linking?
