Hunting the Huntress

Aug 29, 2005 10:50

Alexia returned to House Tyree after nearly a month’s absence. Things were getting really bad between the Assassins and Thieves again. As much as he wanted to dismiss the idea he did need the help of one experienced in these matters. There was only one he could trust to help with these things and she had become the target of more then one kidnap ( Read more... )

Mariel says nothing at his remarks, really what did she expect him to say? All the same Ke'Lan's dark expression is both comforting but also unnerving. Though she too is careful to hide this as well. Though things were settled between them earlier he was still bitter at her actions and it was obvious he'd rather be anywhere else then associating with his old enemies.

As he leads them to the small room and gives an offer to check for devices Ke'Lan quietly scans the room despite Mariels brief look that seems to say that it isn't necessary. As he glances around she replies politely to Alexia.

I have no doubt of your honesty, but my associate prefers to ensure this personally.

Though inwardly she knows he is also doing this to agitate and possibly insult the two of them. However he finds nothing and soon joins them as Alexia offers a drink. Mariel hesistates before giving in as he smirks.

Some tea would be nice if you have some.

Ke'Lan politely declines as he takes a seat his expression guarded as he listens silently as does Mariel who nods slightly at Alexia's final remarks.

Alright then, what do you wish to know?

Alexia is unphased by Ke'Lan as he usually was by most people and thier nervousness around him. He was a spy and assassin after all, people are naturally nervous in such company.

He nods to her request for tea and makes a point of ignoring the Narn. He knew the tactics, he was an agitator and Alexia was unwilling to play his games.

Her openness to business is a slight surprise but he lets nothing show, instead remaining serene.

I will start with the less important.. or well less important to my superiors, matters.

Who has been kidnapping Lady Adira?

I know you don't care probably but it seems the incidents started just previous to the Ambassadors poisoning and ironically all of the captured suspects seem to know you in one guise or another. I hardly think it is coincidence.

He gives ehr a very pointed look.

And don't lie.. as you know this conversation is for me only polite formality.. it is niether convienient or fast. Should I catch you lying I will revert to my normal manner of handling these situations.

She takes the tea graciously noting that he is blatantly ignoring the Narn. But if this agitates Ke'Lan he is careful not to show it. However it iritates MAriel who is oddly protective of him but she manages to hide it well as they turn to business.

His question is upfront and direct. But despite her normally cool facade a look of concern creeps into her features. This is news to her and the thought instantly causes her fear to rise. Why drag her into this she thinks to herself. Ke'Lan on the other hand raises a brow slightly and looks more annoyed then anything. He doesn't say a word but he exudes a sensation of dissipointment that seems directed more at Mariel then to the situation at hand.

I'm sorry to dissipoint you, but I wasn't aware of any incidents concerning Lady Adira. But if you can tell me more about the captured suspects perhaps I can make sense of this.

She states quietly as her thoughts already begin to try to fill in the blanks as a sinking sensation in the pit of her stomach tells her that this may have nothing to do with Adira at all but rather her.

Alexia looks concerned at the revelation that Mariel truly knows nothing of this at the moment or at least has yet to put the pieces together. He sighs heavily and a pair of Centauri Assassins bring a third Centauri into the room. Alexia motions to the cuffed man.

Does he look familiar?

OOC: I am letting you fill in the plot or at least direct the plot of who and what this man is... **EG**

OOC: Hmm.. I suppose.. though Alexia would surely have skinned him by now..literally if it were that man.. but...ah.. maybe Alexia has other ideas..I am around if you want to chat about this.

A slaver?

Alexia's brow raises.

Which slaver?

he asks knowing where he can gain more information if he needs to. Though speaking to that man was almost as bad as speaking to the cuffed Centauri.

OOC- oh yeah good point I can't see Alexia letting him live that long anyways...Perhaps he is in cahoots with said criminal but isn't the directly responsible? *shrugs* ah crap i'm taking off for the evening shortly =( I'll have to get back to you on that one tomorrow, unless you have some ideas? At the moment i'm a completely clean slate so i'm cool with whatever you come up with =)

Mariel nods slightly her expression turning steely as she retorts sharply.

I'm surprised he didn't devulge you in this information himself.

She states not really wanting to speak further on this topic as it could lead to revealing more information about her alter ego then she'd care to admit.

Alexia frowns at her response.

People do not give thier underlings all the information so I have to work my way up the chain of command. I am sure you are not that naive.

OOC- Slag! I flubbed up! Mariel is disguised as Taytana Beauchamp and therefore wouldn't pin herself as the direct killer of the slaver. She would try to point the finger at another associate of hers. *has deleted and corrected former reply*

Mariel sighs deeply as she studies the man before her still in cuffs.

What does he not even know the name of his direct associate? Or rather the name she calls herself?

Folding her arms she tells him the part of the truth she knows along with the ruse that would cover her direct involvement with the slavers death.

The slavers name is Bali El Mufti. Or at least that is the name she is commonly known as. However not only does she deal in the slave business she's also known for her blackmarket dealings of dust and weapons.

Alexia listens and his expression darkens.

Please don't hide things from me. I don't care if you are involved.. I just want the information to stop it.

His voice becomes cold and vicious.

Unless of course my original suspicion is true... that you are the end of this ladder I am climbing.

At Alexia's words Ke'Lan finally speaks his expression dark as his words are blatant.

Remove the prisoner and we will reveal what little we know.

Mariel shakes her head at Alexia's final remarks as she smirks slightly.

Do you really think I play such an important role in all of this?

Alexia motions for the prisioner to be taken out of the room... Mariel's comment brings a dark fire to his eyes and he turns his gaze on her like a half wild predator.

You poisoned the man your only true friend in this universe loved. Should I expect anything but the worst from such a trecherous woman?

In this remark Mariel finds herself truly alone. She doesn't dare look at Ke'Lan who already made this argument a few times already. She wants to argue this point, but something stops her. Fear of losing her temper and revealing too much? having to see Ke'Lan study her with the sad dissipointment in his eyes or the guilt that lingers deep down and seems to eat at her more and more. No matter the reason the response is simple, fervant and honest.

For the record I'm not completely responsible for this.

She states quietly, her expression troubled.

But I do think it's me that they are really after. Adira was probably their only link to my location. Its the only logical explanation.

Alexia doesn't readily believe her and his expression clearly shows it.

Then why does it continue. Everyone knows if Adira knew where you were she would rat you out to anyone. She hates you and I can't really blame her.

He sighs frustrated.

It's not like she's your ally so what do they wish to get from her?

Mariel eyes narrow as she hisses in obvious frustration.

How should I know? Your the telepath!

The words hurt she doesn't know why but it does and it only adds to her inner confusion. Only the weak feel guilty she once said and now that the emotions are echoing in her thoughts she finds herself inwardly struggling. She was only supposed to be a mission to be completed after all, a means to an end. But now...Now what...Ignoring her thoughts for the moment she replies the only logical option she knows.

Londo. It has to be because of him. Though what they could hope to achieve by kidnapping her is beyond me. She's no fool and neither is he. If they wanted anything from him I'm sure they could ahve just as easily taken it. Which means there is another piece to this then we are aware of.

Alexia's eyes narrow.

So you'd prefer I just tore through your mind instead of asking?

Alexia was sick of this dance. Though he was pleased by her guilt.

You and I both know it is not because of the Ambassador. Stop toying with me I am in no mood for such foolishness.

There is a biting anger in Alexia's words he was on the verge of screaming at her but he would not let her break him or see that she could make him angry. With a pleasant smile he continues.

Now what is it you had to tell me?
