House was in love all over again with his darling masterpiece when he spotted the corpse at his feet. He knew Jimmy was special and what it was, it made his undead heart beat again. The priest had killed for the first time but it was obvious that he did it to some lowlife who had no business prowling the streets. But the best part was...that bloody ( Read more... )

James only let his creator clean his face. The man had been a rapist, incestuous, and while he knew he couldn't forgive himself for the death- he too needed to live.

"What brought about this hunt? Don't I provide you with enough blood?" House's tone was in jest; he was proud and beaming. It also proved that Jimmy had learned how to go beyond reading minds and hear souls, to see who were Innocent and who were filthy, filthy sinners. A rare ability in the vampire world, only 10% of the general population could do so.

"I'm not sure," he remarked. "I just felt... compelled to do so."

James cleaned his hands on a spare scrap of towel and dipped his head.

With one glass-nailed finger, House raised Jimmy's head and kissed his forehead. "Not bad, cheri...but we do have to get rid of it."

James leaned into his touch, his hand falling still at the rib cage of both his master and his lover.

House simply cuddled up to his creation and uncorked a small bottle of wine over the corpse. He then lit a match over it, setting the man on a spectacularly colored fire against the night sky. "You look radiant, my dear priest."

"It must be hard considering the pallor of my skin."

Greg grinned at the sight of Jimmy's smile and the wit it caused. "Maybe it's because you're too pretty to be killing or the fact that wine burns in a different color than oils."

"Whatever the cause I'm well fed," the former pastor remarked, his smile stretching wider displaying the nefarious canines that had done the damage to his prey.

The body was slow in being consumed by the flames but it didn't take away from what Greg saw. "I do have one surprise for you," he promised, taking Jimmy's hand. Like any vampire, the priest must have missed the Sun at one time and House wanted to do something different other than shower him with gifts.

Being older and having done the trial and error himself, the doctor figured out a time lapse between night and dawn when the light was dull enough not to hurt the photosensitive skin. Add to that this small abandoned church with stained glass windows and the whole place lit up perfectly with the rising star. "I give you the Sun."

Warm currents cast down James' face and for a split second it was one of the best gifts he could have been given. He missed humanity, but he had always been a logical being and had long since come to terms with his death. The feeling, however, brought on nostalgia like he'd never experienced.

House looked on, watching his lover enjoy the dancing lights but he also knew that expression from Jane. Due to his circumstances, neither him nor Jimmy had a chance to properly say goodbye to daytime. The doctor's life had been stolen from that inhumane bastard of sire that was Tritter and the priest in a moment of weakness.

"What do you miss the most about your past life?"

Wherever they went, Jimmy would always perform mass in any place he could and it kept reminding House what an altruistic soul his mate was...even if he was bordering on becoming excommunicated.

"The orphans that kept stead in my chapel," he replied softly. Jimmy was more than just a father, he was paternal. It was his purpose for being what he'd been. He loved to help people, more specifically children. "Their wealth of life was small, but their spirits large."

"I severely doubt you cared about their monetary value." House quipped, "You would have been a wonderful father." Then that got him thinking aloud, "So, if I may ask, why did you choose to be a priest rather than settle down?"

His mind then pictured Jimmy surrounded by children of ages, all eager to play and frolic at the church grounds, not a care in the world. He did see this once while they were still just acquaintances, the older bloodsucker hiding in the shadows as the loveliest priest of them all was being spun around blindfolded trying to find the giggling youngsters.

"I loved a woman of color once, a moore," he said softly. "She was stricken with disease, and we were both very young. As you well know I'd never acquainted myself with sins of the flesh and while she was slowly wilting I couldn't bring myself to part from her, I can't explain how or why I loved her- but I did, and she had much more spirit and faith in the lord them myself. It seemed only natural to carry on her memory. She passed on at the tender age of fifteen."

House frankly expected the usual diatribe of 'a calling from God' from anyone except Novak. "In my 200 years, I've never heard any priest confess such conviction as to his reason for wearing the cloth. You're my first on many things, especially a Catholic official who is also a humanist."

The hand he kept out to monitor the sun's rays started to feel hot, meaning it was time for them to recede back in the shadows.
