They say that the most difficult thing to accomplish in a novel is the first chapter. Just the right words to draw the reader in. Just the idea to set the tempo of the work.

But inspired by a recent posting by Roy, and more specifically a novel by S. Frey, I am ready to begin.

I Dumbass,
- An autobiography by the
house_of_straw (loosely based on a first-party's specious account of real events)

Chapter 1:

I would like to begin by apologizing.

Irony has taught me much in life, not the least of which: Most of the trouble which will be visited upon us through the course of our lives is not for the few things we have done wrong, but for innumerable things we've been perceived to have done wrong. I’m tired of the most worthwhile lessons in my experience being taught to me through irony.

There has to be a better way.

Further, I apologize for the lesson you’ll discover immediately after you’ve completed reading my work. You will never have this time and money back. But hopefully you’ll have learned through irony in this one thing you unquestionably did do wrong and know for a several hours afterwords ... what it is to be me.
