"Sounds like it must be fascinating, then," she laughs and comes over. "Looking for breeches that fit and are the style I need. I could ask Bar, but I'm certain there must be a pair already here somewhere. Other than being annoyed with that, quite fine. You?"

"I have to write another sixteen or so thank you notes to reach my daily goal, but I think I've earned a break. I'm quite looking forward to the end of April. But mostly very very well."

"I'm very, very glad to hear that," she grins. "And if you've already written half as many as I suspect you have, I feel a break is sorely needed."

"Hundreds," says Amy. "Thought not all today. But how many punch bowls do they imagine I need? And whatever do they think people are using to serve punch in Ambergeldar now? Horse troughs? I have forty-one, Lucy, and each is more ridiculous than the last.

Amy laughs. "I'll suggest it," she promises.

"I'm threatening to use them as flower pots, but only to Perry."

"I could," says Amy, suddenly stuck with a vision of rather a lot of very improbable planters turning up, say, around the stables.

"Would you like to come to the wedding, Lucy?"

"Of course," she laughs. "I should like that very much."

"Then you may consider yourself officially, if informally, invited," says Amy.

"The wedding itself will probably be very grand and very proper and a little dull, but the ball afterwards should be fun."

"Well, royal weddings tend to be," she says reasonably, "and I look forward to it anyway."

"I'm looking forward to being married. The wedding is just the only way to do that."

A pause.

"I talked to Eustace the other day."

"Did you?" Lucy says conversationally. "And what did Eustace have to say?"

"I think he's a little . . . unsettled, perhaps, by your recent . . . resurrection?
