Hello there! I'm not 100% if this post is allowed, so if it's not, let me know.
Essentially, I'm about to start a project for the House fandom and I need to know which direction I should take. I'm not particularly fond of how the show has been going for a while now, so I'm going to start my own massive AU. Which sounds kinda immature, but I'm not ignoring House and declaring that my AU would be better. I just kinda want to take a literary break from the normal House universe.
I need help deciding what I should devote all my energy/time towards because I have three general ideas but can't do them all. So, please help me decide! All choices would have a major focus on House/Cuddy/Wilson friendship with hints for all sides of the ship. Whichever AU I chose, I will do my absolute best to make it as IC as possible for maximum enjoyment.
Descriptions of the possible AUs under the cut!
1. Red Riding Hood AU
Summary: The Red Riding Hood fairy tale told with Cuddy, House, and Wilson and partially in the Princeton-Plainsboro universe.
I actually have the beginning chapter of this AU written out, and I've done a lot of research for it. It involves Cuddy (still the Dean of Medicine) visiting a cousin of hers who lives in a cabin just a bit outside of a popular campsite grounds, but she gets lost along the way. House also lives alone in the forest, and he sees Cuddy, stalks her a bit, then confronts her. In this universe, House is a diagnostician who was fired for malpractice (because in any other universe, he would so be fired) but has been itching to get back to the medical field. He still has the insatiable desire to "solve the puzzle" of disease. He recognizes Cuddy as the Dean of Princeton Plainsboro and offers to help her, but secretly he wants to convince her to allow him to work for her. This leads House to lead Cuddy astray and sabotage their travels so he has more time to persuade her. Along the way, they run into Wilson, a camper who works in the same hospital that House had gotten fired from. Wilson, assuming House is an unsafe man to be around, tries to get Cuddy away from him, but drama ensues.
(So, yes. Cuddy is Red Riding Hood, House is the "wolf," and Wilson is the helpful lumberjack that saves Red Riding Hood, depending on which version of the fairy tale you read.)
I'm concerned about this one because I feel it may be too far-fetched for some. It's always been a goal of mine to write a Red Riding Hood AU for one of my fandoms because I LOVE that fariy tale, but yeah. The story would be very complicated relationship-wise because Cuddy won't know who to trust, Wilson will be trying to beat House at his own mind games, and House will be busy trying to manipulate everyone. It's tricky because since it's a forest setting, House having a cane would be extremely unbelievable and impractical. To amend this, I'm planning to portray that House is addicted to medication because he suffers from severe migraines. And when he does not take his medication, his moods become very volatile. (My friend and I have actually looked into this and found medication for migraines that, when they aren't taken properly, lead to this kind of reaction.)
My passion for this AU rekindled after I heard that the new Red Riding Hood movie sucked. I haven't seen it but I had wanted it to be good, so I was gonna try to kill two birds with one stone and write this fanfic. Tell me what you think!
2. Sequel to 'Bells'
Summary: Wilson and House died, but Wilson is sent back to Earth as an angel to help Cuddy and the hospital.
In summary, this story would be about how House and Wilson died, but Wilson is sent back to earth as an angel. The reason for his arrival is unknown to him at first, and I don't particularly want to spoil the ending, but in short, the hospital is in grave danger from an immediate threat and then an imminent threat. Cuddy is still alive, but she has moved on from the hospital. Wilson has to convince her to get involved and take charge again in order to save the hospital. House, in the meantime, is in constant communication with Wilson as if he is the voice in Wilson's head. House will most likely make a couple cameos and some of the story will be told from his perspective, but for the most part he will be back in "heaven." I already have a scene planned out where House visits Cuddy briefly. Unlike the Red Riding Hood AU, the other character of House would be included in this one. How will they all react to seeing Wilson back from the dead? That'll be part of the fun.
It sounds lame, but this is the one that would probably be the most fun. If any of you have read and liked my story "Bells," where Metatron evaluates House and Wilson's sins, then this story would probably be your favorite. I would keep the same tone from "Bells" and this story would have a much more humorous, lighter atmosphere. I also plan on making a couple Good Omens references, which I'm pretty excited about, heh. Even though this will include Wilson being an angel and many references to God, I am not using this story to preach. I'm extremely open-minded about religion and would never be preachy. Religion will be handled very carefully in this story so I wouldn't alienate people.
If this sounds a bit like "The Preacher's Wife," that's because I was inspired by that movie to do this. Also, I can't help thinking that the show Supernatural had a part to play and its influence may show up in the fanfic.
3. Same old story in a different direction
This is probably the least exciting, but probably the most satisfying. I would write my own Princeton Plainsboro adventures based on the tone and writing of House from the earlier seasons. I would essentially be ignoring the recent seasons. Some plotlines would still be taken (I would still have Cuddy try to have a child, etc etc) but everything would be done in a different way and some plots would be completely new. I have thought the least about this one, but it could really go in any direction and I wouldn't have much of a problem figuring out plotlines.
4. You tell me!
Is there an AU of the House universe that you've always wanted done but no one has dared to do it before? Let me know! I'm not afraid to try anything. Medieval ages AU? Harry Potter-esque AU? Pirate AU? I'm open to suggestions if none of these AUs sound appealing. (Random side note- there's actually a really awesome pirate AU for the Teen Titans fandom, so you see, even the weirdest AUs can work.)
Thanks for the help, everyone! ^^
