Comment from Lisa Edelstein: Hi! Thanks for coming!

Rcky Mtns love House and Dr. Cuddy: Hi there..really love the show House. It blends drama and humor. you and house have a love-hate relationship. do you think that will build into something? How can i get an autographed pic of you? Continued success with the show!
Lisa Edelstein: I know as much about Dr. Lisa Cuddy's romantic future as I do about my own. ;-) They don't tell us much! So I assume she'll either be having a relationship with him down the road or getting very jealous about someone else's. Glad you like the show!

Milton, PA: I'd like to let you know how much I appreciate your work on HOUSE. Cuddy is my hero for not taking any heat from you-know-who! Will you stay with the show and see it through to the end? Thanks
Lisa Edelstein: Yes, I love this show. It's so smart and clever; I don't see any reason why I'd ever want to leave. They'd have to drag me away kicking and screaming.

Amherst, NY: Hey Lisa. I was wondering what your reaction was when you found out that your character slept with Dr. House. I must admit I didn't see that one coming. You must be enjoying your role on the show. I wish you continued high ratings with the show. Also, is there an actor you wish to work with at some point? Thanks and take care.
Lisa Edelstein: Tricky question! I don't believe I've denied or confirmed my character's past with House yet on the air though it has been hinted at. Yes, I myself know the history because David Shore and I discussed it. But mums the word. There are a lot of actors I'd like to work with. The first one that came to mind this morning was Benicio Del Toro. He's so incredible.

Stonington, CT: The medical diagnoses they come up with on the show are great. Do you think your character will ever get to help House solve one of his complex cases?
Lisa Edelstein: She's definitely stepped in a bit on a few cases (the babies, the nun) but so far her specialty hasn't been brought into the fray. I hope so. I think Cuddy has a lot to offer beyond damage control.
I love reading the scripts when they come out. It's always fascinating, always an education.

Washington, DC: You have very good on-camera chemistry with Dr. House. Could all the sparring actually be covering up a mutual attraction?
Lisa Edelstein: I think so! I doubt she's met many people in her life that could go head to head with her like that. I'm sure she's met her match in him. It's a love hate-love exasperate relationship.

PA: What was it like working with Ed Norton? Do you still keep in touch with him?
Lisa Edelstein: It was SO much fun. Edward is quite smart and incredibly talented. I loved doing that movie. Plus, shooting in Manhatten is a dream job in itself. He's quite politically motivated so I have conversed with him from time to time about election stuff, etc. He's a real go getter when he's fired up about something. If he believes in it strongly he puts his whole self into it to get things done.

Ken Ruskin, NY: Does the show have long term potential? Can the characters evolve?
Lisa Edelstein: Well, I certainly hope so! It's such a great group of people to work with I wouldn't mind doing it for quite a while. And yes, I think evolution is inevitable. It's already happening.

Listowel, ON: Lisa, I think that the first season of the West Wing is just about the best dramatic television there has ever been. How was it working on the series and did you know at the time that you were involved in something so memorable?
Lisa Edelstein: That was a great job from day one. As soon as I read the script I knew it was special. Aaron Sorkin is so talented at dialogue and story telling. On my first day I had to climb into bed with Rob Lowe - in my underwear. I kept laughing to myself because I was so in love with Rob as a kid that I knew I'd have flipped out back then were the future to somehow reveal itself to me. It's a great show.

Philadelphia, PA: Lisa I was curious of how you felt and prepared for your role as a transexual in alley Mcbeal....and I love your role in house...one of my favorite shows.!!
Lisa Edelstein: I'm glad you are enjoying 'House'! I was thrilled when I read my first script on 'Alley Mcbeal.' They send it to me without telling me what the character was in advance. So by page two I was screaming/laughing. I loved it! For whatever it's worth, for some reason in my life I have known quite a few transgenders. Being in NYC as a teenager and hanging out in clubs exposed me to all kinds of people from all walks of life and that's why I liked it. I'm fascinated by people who live outside the supposed "norm." So I was thrilled to play the part and did my best to do it with dignity. It was a blast.

Washington D.C.: How did you get your start in acting?
Lisa Edelstein: Acting is all I ever wanted to do since I was a little girl. So I always did plays and danced and performed at the drop of a hat. I went to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for a while but didn't like it very much. I ended up dropping out and writing a musical instead. I did that show at a theater called 'La Mama' in NYC. It's an incredible place that nurtures young artists as well as established ones. That experience taught me so much. After that I ended up with a horrible show on MTV that still makes me cringe ;-). Then I was off to LA and soon started working there in a variety of film and tv roles. It's been quite a journey.

Des Moines, Iowa: If you had to choose a career outside of acting, what do you picture yourself doing?
Lisa Edelstein: I'd be a different person. I can't imagine doing anything else! I always enjoyed medicine but hated school so playing a doctor on TV kind of satisfies that!

California: What movies have you been in?
Lisa Edelstein: I've been in a bunch but my favorite movie part was in 'Keeping the Faith.' Coming out soon on Showtime is a film called 'Fathers and Sons.' It's pretty intense but I really enjoyed it. I think it comes out this June...

NYC: I love the show 'House', I heard that the upcoming show is about the Mob??? How does that storyline go? (without spoilers of course...)
Lisa Edelstein: Without spoilers? Pretty much what you see in the trailer... House's next patient is a member of the mob and dealing with him means dealing with ALL of them...it's a good one...

Forest Hills, NY: Hi Lisa, thanks for chatting today. Was your character pretty well-defined in the early scripts, or did you have some input into her development?
Lisa Edelstein: Both. David Shore has an incredible open door policy when it comes to creative thoughts and ideas. I think for all of us, our characters are deepening and evolving with time. At first it's really about show structure but now that we have a nice life span (An entire second season! Wow!), we can really get down and dirty with each and every character...Love that!

Toledo, OH: Knowing acting must be demanding, and hard work equates to some success, are you having FUN??
Lisa Edelstein: Are you kidding??? I have the best job in the WORLD! At least, the best job for ME. I am deeply, deeply, eternally, grateful. I love my life. I love my job. It's awesome.

studio city, ca: how did you like playing a prostitute on West Wing?
Lisa Edelstein: I just loved Aaron Sorkin's writing so much. I thought it was another opportunity to play someone who exists outside society's norms but exists with great dignity.

PHX, AZ: I love your work in this show. Do you have any other projects in store? You just bring more in your acting than most. Thanks.
Lisa Edelstein: That's so nice of you! Thank you very much. I have a movie coming out this summer on Showtime called 'Fathers and Sons.' I also did a small independent film called 'Say Uncle' (aka 'Donuthole') with Peter Paige, Kathy Nagimy, etc. But I'm not sure when that one will be revealed...

raleigh, nc: love the show! Where do you see the relationship between house and the new big cheese contributor going?
Lisa Edelstein: It's gonna be a rough ride for all of us...

Grand Haven, MI: I loved your character on the West Wing - I wish you'd been with the show longer. Kudos on House; it's a fabulous show.
Lisa Edelstein: Thank you so much! Yes, I was secretly hoping Laurie ('West Wing') would come back to the White House as a lawyer since she'd passed the bar but alas...Not so much. I'm glad you like the new show too...

Morristown,New Jersey: Lisa what was your first big break???
Lisa Edelstein: I don't think I've had one yet! I've always moved in inches, not leaps. But it's worked for me. I have a lovely career and hopefully a life long one. I love my job.

Kansas City, MO: Lisa, I love "House" (and I'm also a big fan of Keeping the Faith) What kind of feedback have medical professionals given you about House in general and your character in particular? What would you personally do if you were the boss of someone like Dr. House?
Lisa Edelstein: Well, my dad's a doctor and so he's really enjoyed seeing the show. Since he always wanted me to be a doctor too, I think he gets an added little thrill. We've gotten all kinds of responses from the medical profession in general. Everything from "That's exactly how it is!" to "How dare you [fill in issue here]!" It definitely stirs up the pot, this show. Gets people really fired up.

Montgomery Village, MD: So is Cuddy secretly in love with House?? The new hospital CEO (Chi McBride) hinted that there was some past relationship between Cuddy and House. What's the scoop?
Lisa Edelstein: I think she has definitely met her match in him. She's a brilliant, successful and funny woman and I doubt she's met many men that could go head to head with her like he does. So I'd say, yes, on some level, Cuddy absolutely loves House. What that will lead to or not I have no idea.

Seattle, Washington: Love the show by the way. What the chance of seeing your character getting involved with some medical cases on "House" this season?
Lisa Edelstein: Well, she was involved somewhat on the new born baby epidemic way back when. And she did pull House off the case of the sick nun and take over herself...but as for the future, the next few weeks Cuddy will mostly be trying to save House's JOB. She's got Chi McBride's Vogler to contend with.

Amsterdam, NL: Do you enjoy musicals? Is it easier learning lines with a tune, rather than say... the lines of Aaron Sorkin?
Lisa Edelstein: That's an interesting question. Actually, because I played piano as a kid I think I remember all dialogue musically. Not like the sentences themselves have a tune because that would be awful, but like the whole scene tells a story, has a path... As for Aaron's writing, he's so good at dialogue that his writing is incredibly easy to remember. It's the bad dialogue that is hard. things that don't have a natural flow, things that feel forced, things that are just exposition - those are the sore spots.

Kent in Kentucky: First of all, congratulations on your success on the show. I also want to commend you for your commitment to Best Friends. What kind of animals do you have?
Lisa Edelstein: I have three rescued dogs and a cat. It's a motley crew. They've all got their issues. ;-)

Chicago, IL: I LOVE your wardrobe on the show. Please tell me who the designer is for your suits!! Love the show--love your character! (and I don't think curmudgeonly is the right word to describe Lisa--do you?)
Lisa Edelstein: I love my wardrobe too! I wear alot of Dolce and Gabanna on the show. Some Michelle Mason and Petro Zilla...Mark Jacobs... they're a lot of fun, my wardrobe fittings... AS for Lisa Cuddy's description....I think she is incredible at her job, has a great sense of humor and has to work really hard at maintaining some bounderies while still letting House do his magic. It's a lot to ask. She's one tough but warm-hearted lady.

Louisville, Kentucky: Do you think you've finally found a home with House? How has being in so many series affected you as an actress?
Lisa Edelstein: [laughing] I am so excited about seeing season two... that's never quite happened for me as a regular! It's wonderful, I hope it lasts for years, I love this show and the people I am working with... AS for my past, acting is a great job but you get big successes and big disappointments and that's just the nature of the beast. You have to be really cut out for this kind of life to stick around for as long as I have. It seems to suit me though. It's the only kind of roller coaster I'll go on! And hey, there is a lot to be said for variety! I've certainly had my share!

Kenner, LA: From your understanding, can you explain the reasoning for bringing in the new character, the gentlemen who donated $1,000,000. to the hospital? Just something new to add spice maybe?
Lisa Edelstein: I think they really wanted to find a way to begin exploring each of the main characters, who they are, what they want, where they come from. Vogler is definitely a great catalyst for all that.

New York, NY: I saw the preview for this week's show last night. My friend has just been diagnosed with hepatitis C and I was going to tell her to watch it. How large of a role does that plot have in the episode and how in depth is it discussed?
Lisa Edelstein: I can't remember the details of the episode because they all become a big blur as you shoot them and move on to the next. But I'm not sure she will get much more information than her doctors have given her. As far as I recall, it's really about many things, not just the Hep C.

Yorktown, Va: I missed the opening episodes but am a huge fan now. What happened to House's leg? gREAT SHOW!!
Lisa Edelstein: House has an infarction in his thigh which is essentially muscle death. Very, very painful. And chronic pain at that. This is why he is strung out on the vicodens. Glad you are enjoying the show!

Washington, DC: As Dr. Lisa Cuddy on House, your role allows you to see a different view of medicine. How do you feel about the Terri Schiavo situation in Florida? I remember an early episode where House interfered with a decision to pull a patient's life support.
Lisa Edelstein: Personally, I myself would not want to be kept alive in such a condition. I feel for the husband who knows his wife's wishes and can't act on them. I feel for the parents who can't let go despite the severity of her brain damage. I believe in helping people die when the quality of life is so incredibly low. I think Dr. Kevorkian is wrongly imprisoned.

Voorhees, NJ: Love the show. Dr. Cuddy is definitely not the cliche "boss". She takes House's antics and stunts remarkably in stride, even when he puts the hospital at risk. What's he got on her, or what exactly does she owe him?
Lisa Edelstein: I think it's more the opposite. I think though he is brilliant and incredible at what he does, he was also impossible to hire at most places. I think as much as he pushed the envelope he always knows in the back of his head that he's there because of her. She hired him because she knows his talents far exceed any other doctor around. And she knew what she was taking on with him personality-wise and did it anyway. He owes HER. Big time.

springfield, ma: How many more seasons are we to expect?
Lisa Edelstein: When you find out, tell me!

RICHMOND VA: Do you still get offered "mixed-gender" roles after your portrayal on Ally McBeal? I think you are smoldering on House!
Lisa Edelstein: Thanks! I love that! I did get several offers along the way to play some more transgenders but that's just the way this business is. I got tons of lesbian role offers after 'Relativity,' hooker offers after 'West Wing,' Jewish offers after 'Keeping the Faith' etc, etc, etc. It's pretty predictable! But I just get a giggle out of it and keep looking for more new stuff to try on.

CHARLESTON, SC: What's it like to be the biggest star to come out of Wayne Valley high school
Lisa Edelstein: [laughing] I'm not sure that's much of a claim to fame! You are funny...

Lake George, NY: Did I make this up or did they make reference to a past 'relationship' between Cuddy and House in a recent episode?
Lisa Edelstein: There were moments of insinuation, yes...

Tujunga, CA: Hi Lisa - I've enjoyed your work over the years and am glad that you have a regular role once again. Before House, what did people out on the street recognize you most from? The West Wing? Ally McBeal? Something else?
Lisa Edelstein: It depends on what's airing at the time. Though, I think the 'Seinfeld' episodes have had the longest shelf life. It's pretty incredible.

Fairfax, VA: In a recent House episode, House was deciding if he should go against a patient's wishes regarding life support. Has your role on this hit TV show affected how you look at medicine or perceive events such as the Schiavo case?
Lisa Edelstein: No, not really. I come to the table with my own perspective. I'm just glad nothing much has happened on the show that offends me. I seem to be of pretty much the same mind as my producers.

Omaha, Nebraska: Love your work!!! Did you go to college? I'm looking at attending college in the fall and majoring in drama. Any advice?
Lisa Edelstein: I went to NYC Tisch School of the Arts for only a few years, then left to write my own show. My advice would be to do as much as you can, be in plays, be in short films, write, create, act...become the artist you dream of...that's what being young is great for. There are no limits on what you can achieve... Be fearless. Go for it.

Chesterfield MI: Love the show and your character as well as all the others. I really like Hugh Laurie and I'm wondering if you've seen his old show 'Wooster and Jeeves' ?
Lisa Edelstein: Hugh is so amazing, isn't he? what a great talent. And no, I of course am very aware of 'Wooster and Jeeves' and have heard how incredible he is in it but I haven't had a chance to see it myself. I'd LOVE to. I really enjoy working with him. He's a creative mad man.;-)

Arlington, VA: What type of preparation did you perform for this role? You are an executive physician, head of hte transplant board, etc. What did you do to learn how to be a doctor with such power?
Lisa Edelstein: I don't think you can really learn how to be powerful, you just have to take it on. As for my character's job, I just had to do a little research. It's no easy feat getting to be a woman in her position. She's quite a workaholic and brilliant in her own right. I love that.

Dracut, MA: My husband and I love your show. Now that Chi McBride will be in upcoming episodes will Cuddy and House become allies since Chi's character appears to be an antagonist to both House and Cuddy's?
Lisa Edelstein: She will certainly be put in some tough spots trying to negotiate the two of them...

Belford, NJ: Hi - though I have honestly only seen House a few times I do enjoy your character. I am a big West Wing fan however and remember very well your part there...it seems to me that the most difficult thing in acting would be to be believable as both an "escort" and a doctor, for example. Do you feel this is the case...and if not what is the toughest part?
Lisa Edelstein: The toughest part of acting is surviving the business of acting. Outside of that, it's all fun and games. Taking on new characters is what we love to do! Keeps things interesting...

Midlothian VA: Was Princeton chosen with the connection to Einstein and House's theories? NJ is known for more than toxic waste :), I nominate you for Governor. Move over Ahnold!
Lisa Edelstein: Having grown up in NJ I understand the sentiment! But I have no idea why David Shore chose Princeton as the show's home town.

Fairfax, VA: Apart from House, you have been in a number of sucessful television shows. Have you ever had an embarassing audition? Ever try out for a role in a sitcom that became incredibly popular (i.e. Friends, etc.)?
Lisa Edelstein: Whenever you act you are at risk of embarassment! It's such a vulnerable thing to do, you are so exposed... It's possible that I've had many of those moments in my deep dark past but they have magically been erased from my memory. ;-)

Elmhurst, IL: I liked you a lot on West Wing with Rob Lowe's character. What was it like working with Aaron Sorkin and what's your opinion of the show now that he and Rob have gone?
Lisa Edelstein: Aaron Sorkin rocks my world. He is an incredible writer and I loved every second of working with him. His dialogue is like no one else's. Just brilliant.

Newton, MA: How was it working on "Seinfeld?"
Lisa Edelstein: Fun. Strange. Exciting. Hilarious. The creators of Seinfeld were as interesting as the characters they wrote...

Philadelphia, PA: It's good to see a "nice Jewish girl" make it in television. Where are you from, originally. Can you tell us a bit about your personal background?
Lisa Edelstein: I grew up in NJ. Coney Island was my beach town and I moved to The Village in NYC as soon as I was legally old enough to.

Morehead City, NC: Love your character on the show. Do you think your character will be put in peril by the new board of director in an effort to bring DR. HOUSE in line? Thanks again!
Lisa Edelstein: It's going to get very intense between the three of them... Tune in...

Somewhere in NJ: House is our favorite TV show in my HOUSEhold...What's will all the low cut blouses? I Love it, but my wife thinks it's inappropriate for the CEO of a hospital.
Lisa Edelstein: [laughing] In a world where Janet Jackson's breast is more obscene for our children to see than like the slaughtering of hundreds in half the movies out there I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But still, is cleavage really that confusing? That edgy? She likes fashion, our Cuddy, likes to feel beautiful is a woman of stature, has a huge workload, has a lot of responsibility and most likely not much of a personal life and wants to dress the way she likes. So let her. All the power to her.

Nashville TN: No question here - I just love the show. I haven't missed an episode nor will I! I love your role on the show and with House. Cuddy is great with House. She doesn't let him walk all over her but listens to him at the same time.
Lisa Edelstein: Thanks!

kansas city mo: i've seen you in many 1/2 shows in the last few years, plus the early eps of west wing, but this seems like your biggest hour drama roll since synchronicity. do you have a preference?
Lisa Edelstein: I think you mean 'Relativity'... [laughing].
I prefer being funny on a drama then being on a sit-com. I have a hard time watching sit-coms. I think the only kind of comedy I'd like to be on from here on in are the single camera ones. 'Arrested Development,' for example, makes me laugh out loud. Wow, that's a great show. I love it.

St. Louis MO: I really enjoy your work. You've played a variety of characters that all seem to have an intensity or strong determination to them. How close is that to your personality?
Lisa Edelstein: Well, you always bring pieces of yourself with you whatever characters you choose...

Captain Average, Calgary, AB, Canada: There have been a lot of different people who have pointed out that 'House' is, essentially, Dr. Sherlock Holmes. Which makes you Lestrade to Mr. Laurie's Holmes. and now, it appears you might also be Irene Adler ['For Holmes, she would always be *the woman*.]. What do you think of these comparisons?
Lisa Edelstein: I try and stay out of the way of them...;-)

Iowa: Any spoilers about the rest of the season you would like to share? PLEASE!!!
Lisa Edelstein: Sorry! No can do!

Texas: What show were you on, on MTV
Lisa Edelstein: shhhhhhhhh

Boston, MA: I loved your Character on Ally McBeal. Did anyone think you used to be a man in real life after that series? Thanks, Brenda F
Lisa Edelstein: I got a few "I totally believed it!" screams from fans on the street but other than that, I think I'm safely female in the eyes of most.

memphis, tn: so enjoyed you on Ally McBeal. do you think this show will do as well as Alley McBeal did?
Lisa Edelstein: I hope so! I'm certainly having fun doing it!

Louisville, KY: So how close to character is Hugh Laurie off camera?
Lisa Edelstein: Oh, Hugh is a sweetheart. Absolutely lovely and sensitive and incredibly talented.

Washington, DC: You work alongside Robert Sean Leonard in the hit show, House. What is it like working with him? I'm curious since my co-worker grew up with him.
Lisa Edelstein: Robert makes me laugh so hard I break out in a sweat, I can't breath, I can't speak. He's incredibly droll and self effacing and I adore working with him.

Houston, Texas: How long will it be until the beeker heats up so much that an explosion occurs from the chemistry between your character and House
Lisa Edelstein: [laughing!]
Oh, but the tension is so DELICIOUS...

Fredericksburg, VA: Thanks for chatting with us! I think Dr. Allison Cameron has a crush on House. Do you think they will have a relationship outside of work?
Lisa Edelstein: Time will tell...

Overland Park, Kansas: You've played prostitutes, transgenders, lesbians, and now you play a very seemingly buttoned down character, is it a switch for you?
Lisa Edelstein: It's always a switch for me, no matter what I get to play. As long as there is variety in my life, I don't care which way it goes...

butler, pa: First off, i just love "house". Has it been picked up for another season? Any funny stories from the set?
Lisa Edelstein: Yes, we are picked up for a complete second season! We are very excited!

Hartford, CT: I loved your character on Sports Night? Any thought of going back to comedy
Lisa Edelstein: I seem to always go back and forth between comedy and drama. I hope to always be able to do both...

Reading, Pa : My wife and I really enjoy House. We were wondering what do you think the addition of Chi McBride will bring to the series?
Lisa Edelstein: Glad you are enjoying it! Chi is going to stir up all kinds of trouble...

Atlanta,Georgia: I'm trying to figure out why House told the lady doctor that works with him,he didn't like her.Looked like that killed her. Down deep I think he really does. Great Show.
Lisa Edelstein: Life is complicated. Relationships are complicated. Tune in for more complications. ;-)

Comment from Lisa Edelstein: That was a lot of fun! Thanks for all your questions and I'm so glad you are all watching the show!
