I love the mornings where I can climb out of bed and actually feel like a person, as opposed to a still-sleepy-and-dead-tired piece of being. During the summer in Toronto I tried desperately to reverse my terrible sleeping habits and go to bed by 1am and be up by 8am, and I think I actually performed a lot better as a student (though granted I had less to do and there was more sun out so I felt less gloomy) and as a person. I miss those days ... where breakfast could be a nice bowl of cereal, or apple-cinammon-chocolate chip pancakes, fruits, juices; grocery shopping in Tokyo is such an expensive affair! :(
Tokyo is quickly moving into fall now, and although the temperatures are about 16-17 degrees I still feel that it's like 7 degrees back in Toronto. Definitely did not think that Tokyo could possibly be that cold (although Tokyo is fairly windy compared to T.O). Last week the group went to Yokohama (my favourite city in Japan so far) and I had such a great time catching up with Sachiko, one of the Japanese exchange students I met in first year, and revisiting all of Yokohama's sights and sounds including the Cosmoworld 21 Ferris Wheel ♥ and the incredible onsen! Needless to say it was a wonderful experience and I definitely still want to live in Yokohama if I ever come here for work, haha. On Sunday morning I went with some people to Waseda-sai (Waseda's School Festival) and surprisingly, found that just merely 1.5 months in Komaba I have grown to love Todai and the Komaba campus. I don't know why and where I got the impression that Todai students were not very friendly and snobby (haha) but I've constantly been impressed by how everyone here works so hard, plays even harder, and are some of the nicest and most patient people I've ever met. Waseda will always remain my first dream school in many ways, but for now I am so glad I'm part of AIKOM and Todai :) On our way back to school from Waseda we were all commenting on how much it felt like going home after a long day ...
Other Updates:
My iPod died again on Tuesday of the same problems. :( Went to Apple in Shibuya with my tutor and they gave me a new one for free, yay!
Went to an Okinawan restaurant at Kichijouji, an amazing (though slightly expensive) find. The food was incredibly interesting for sure, even though I wasn't used to some of it haha.
Birthday Parties tonight!
Crazy next weekend: Mt. Takao hiking trip on Friday, Komaba-sai on Sat-Mon, Kabuki play on Sat :)
CHRISTMAS IN 6 WEEKS. ♥ I should get started on gifts and cards and baking (I wish we had common kitchens ... I'm suddenly itching to bake again :( )!! Really excited to spend Christmas season in yet another foreign city (so far I've done Singapore, Cuba, Toronto, New York ... and now Tokyo!) and experiencing it. Although Christmas in Tokyo seems to be only for 恋人 (koibitos; couples) only I still maintain that it's a time with the family and friends!
