This morning, as I was reading the news, I saw the article about how a Singaporean F1 fan died in Malaysia and I got quite a huge shock (mostly because I know quite a few people who went to Sepang to watch the races). O_o;; I was supposed to go to Sepang this year, but my Dad pulled out at the last minute due to business & GOLF commitments! >:
I've finally been accepted into UofT (yesterday), which should leave me rather pleased, but instead all I find myself doing for the past two days is hesitating to accept it. Maybe it's just that lately I've gotten more sentimental about leaving, and more sick and worried about whether I would be able to survive and outlast it alone over there; though many people do this yearly and I really shouldn't be hesitating when alot of people would like to be in my place.
... Right. But, I really am pretty happy that I got accepted, even though it came as quite a shock because I was only expecting an answer somewhere in May. And with the acceptance (I still have no idea whether I got into Vic College though o_o) I have to start choosing courses, which means picking an FYS and all that nonsense. A few days ago I checked out the list for this year's seminars and sadly THEY AREN'T AS EXCITING AS LAST YEAR'S SEMINARS! ): For instance, they took away Renaissance & Baroque Rome, Fatal Attraction: The Lure of the Villian in Literature, the one about Magic and Escapism in Children's Lit & the one about Dionysos, Jesus, and the comparisons between these. But still there are some pretty interesting seminars this year, like the Holy Grail discussion & Afterlife in Ancient Greece.
arrives and Japan comes up with 47 new series. For the uninitiated, the Japanese are really into animes, and hence, we have a production of over 100 - 150 animes per year. Each season I pick up about 3-4 new series, but thanks to the fact that I realised I usually go for the big-shot hyped ones and miss out on the really good ones, I'm going to aim to hit 7-8 new series this season. I'm currently already watching 11 anime series concurrently, and I've also picked up 3 new Korean dramas (Witch's Amusement, The Devil & Hello! Miss) o___o;; Don't ask me how I'm going to finish all this. I don't really plan to. WITCH AMUSEMENT IS TEH WIN, really. And I thought Hello! Miss was good, but after 3 episodes it still hasn't quite piqued my interest (though the one cute guy inside is enough to make me stay on haha).
Among the list of 47 new releases are some I might pick up:
(1) Seto no Hanayome
(2) Claymore
(3) Darker than BLACK ~Kuro no Keiyakusha~: REPLACING CODE GEASS'S SLOT = WIN. Rie Fu & Yoko Kanno music = DOUBLE WIN. Bones & Wolf's Rain Production team = MUST WATCH.
(4) Wellber no Monogatari ~Sisters of Wellber~
(5) Shinkyoku Soukai Polyphonica
(6) GONZO's RomeoXJuliet (SQUEEE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!)
(7) Koutetsu Sangokushi: the show takes place during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese History. Oooh.
(8) Seirei no Moribito: feels very much like 12 Kingdoms to me, but the plot looks vaguely interesting and OP/ED music = WIN.
(9) Lovely Complex
(10) Bokurano: school kids playing a video game which ends up to be real. O_o not the most original, but I like.
(11) Kaze no Stigma
(12) Kaibutsu Oujou
[EDIT]
Finally finished my torturous Japanese homework which involved particle use .___.
I feel like starting an anime/ Asian drama blog sometimes (oh to glorify my complete geekiness & nerdiness!) so I can endlessly talk about anime without having to hide it under LJ-cuts to avoid annoying people on my F-lists. >.>
Have just watched the first episodes of DARKER THAN BLACK, SEIREI NO MORIBITO & CLAYMORE. Few words: I predict that Spring 07 will be AMAZING. Note to Steph
mangolove, I'll be adding previews of the first few episodes I watch as I go along so you can try to decide if you want to watch any of these! :D
Darker Than BLACK - I didn't get much out of the first episode (because the first story is split into double episodes), and I'm not too keen on the character designs, but generally animation was pretty consistent, plot looks good, and the whole deal about Contractors and government agents look interesting. The main characters were pretty memorable as well, especially Hei *___* Generally the music didn't leave a huge impression on me, but they fit the show pretty well, and I love how low-key it feels even though it deals with supernatural powers and all. It's like watching Tokyo Maijin all over again!
Claymore - A little too dark for me at the start, but it's interesting so far. I'm not fond of the character designs either, but I like the vague use of a medieval setting (funny how most anime watchers dislike it o_o), and the overall, noir/grainy effect applied to the whole episode. YAY FOR FEMALE WARRIORS, we seem to be getting alot of them this season. Clare as a main character is pretty unique, and I like the fighting scenes and the appropriate amount of gore poured into the show (am a shounen fangirl! yay!) A rare few not very well drawn scenes (what's up with Clare's eyes!).
Seirei no Moribito - WHAT CAN I SAY, THIS SHOW HAS PRETTY AMAZING BACKGROUNDS. AND IT HAS L'ARC~EN~CIEL SINGING ITS OP. ♥ This is so far my sure-winner for the season, it's gorgeous, has a rather strong storyline, and rather unique character designs. The backgrounds are so awesome that I feel I'm watching a Studio Ghilbi show, and they remind me greatly of Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle. Production I.G is LOVE! I'm definitely looking forward more to this one as it's also my favourite category of anime to watch - supernatural x historical.
I'm also adding Hayate no Gotoku & Heroic Age to the list of first-episodes to watch. And anxiously waiting for the other first episode releases, especially GONZO's RomeoXJuliet. I weep at my low level of Japanese proficiency .___. (I can barely understand the first 2 minutes of an episode, pah) Adding 14 new shows to my current list of 11 followed shows doesn't seem like an extremely bright idea, but I don't really want to drop any of the ones I'm watching just for the ones I want to watch. HOW DO THE JAPANESE DO IT?? One can imagine that the really die-hard fans must sit at home and do nothing but watch terebi all day long. o_o
I've finally ended my gym session, but as I promised my trainer, I will hit the gym at least once a week. (and also because I have ulterior motives for doing so! :D) I've been sick for the past one week or so with a bout of very nasty cold, and last week my weight dropped rather scarily to 49kg. o_o I know that isn't light, but seeing that I've not seen the 4x figure since secondary school, and combined with the fact that I am vaguely tall for my age, 49kg is quite light.
I've got to hurry up and work harder on my Japanese. o_o As it is, I find it rather depressing that what I'm learning right now is probably what kids in Japan learn in elementary school ;___;
But anyway, aside from all other things considered, I am rather happy these days (especially with more money coming into my account and watching my bank balances increase! :D) Less of the stupid flu would make me feel better, obviously. :D
