My (mostly) craptacular day!

Sep 09, 2010 00:22

Crappy Thing #1: I woke up with a headache and a sore throat, which I attributed to a lack of caffeine and/or nicotine.

Crappy Thing #2: It's 8 a.m., and I'm all out of caffeine and nicotine.

Crappy Thing #3: While getting dressed, I realized I'd misplaced wallet. I later recovered it at the mall's lost and found, and the $40 I had stashed in an inner compartment was missing...

Happy Thing #1: ...However, my bank cards and ID were untouched.

Crappy Thing #4: I was expecting my first paycheck today, but it's been delayed a day because of Labor Day.

Crappy Thing #5: My headache and sore throat worsened as the day wore on. Then, I saw the white spots on my tonsils. I knew I had to get to a doctor, but I had no idea where the nearest urgent care place was.

Happy Thing #2: Laurel H. and Dawn both helped me think of the best course of action, which was to ask the mall courtesy desk where the closest ER was and tell triage I'm unemployed. (Well, I was, until last week.)

Happy Thing #3: An incredibly nice lady named Eileen at the courtesy desk arranged through mall security for a cab to pick me up and take me to urgent care at no cost. (I totally owe her lunch.)

Crappy Thing #6: The place was closed by the time I got there...

Crappy Thing #7: ...and the cabbie drove off. I ended up backtracking almost a mile to take the bus to the hospital, where I found out...

Crappy Thing #8: ... that I have a viral infection that may be affecting my liver and spleen, similar to mono (which I've already had.) The doctor prescribed steroids to bring the swelling in my throat down.

Happy Thing #4: It's not strep!

Happy Thing #5: Instead of facing more painful and exhausting busing and walking, I was able to get in touch with a new (very cute) friend. He picked me up from the hospital, bought me dinner at Steak'n'Shake, and drove me home...

Happy Thing #6: He and I are going to COSI to see the Titanic exhibit on Saturday.

All's well that ends well, right?

fuck me, bitching, health
