A week or so after she had spoken to Chelsea, Billie sat on her bed in her apartment and stared at the phone. Hunter had taken Mackenzie and Casey to a carnival down the street, allowing her a little time to talk to Eric.
She kept staring at the phone in her hand, wondering how it was all going to go. Slowly, she dialed his number and when she got to the last digit, she paused.
Her stomach hurt, her mouth was dry, and her hands shook. If she dialed that last digit, the phone would ring. If she let it ring, it would either go to voicemail, or he would answer. If he answered, there was no turning back.
Billie held her breath for a moment. Before she could talk herself out of it, she quickly hit the last digit and waited, her eyes closed, as the phone rang.
