No, Laura, you do NOT have gay friends. If you are willing to sell someone out they are not your friend. Please use another word. How about something that means "people we are nice to in private but are willing to stab in the back when it serves our purposes". I'm sure there's a word for that. You're a librarian. I"m sure you can find the mot juste.
