It’s odd enough to have a male daemon, but stranger still is his shape.
Theus was always a lynx. Decisive and true, he grew with Tommy from a cub to an adult, varying only in his color and features. A broader nose, a lighter coat, variations in touch and texture. Still, he’s always been a lynx...always been something Tommy couldn’t quite reach out and touch, in spite of everything.
The soft coat and cool greys he settled on have always appealed to Tommy, made him a good companion to touch and lean on in more ways than one when life got rough. The neck was just broad enough to hide his face against, the body just warm enough to comfort him when he was sick or hurt.
It was strange how he’d always been a lynx, but stranger still that he seemed to fit Tommy so well...and yet there were things he kept hidden.
Tommy knew that Theus hid things...knew more about himself than he was telling, knew more about Tommy than he would let on. Despite the fact that Tommy knew the truth about his reincarnation, Theus wouldn’t discuss the fact that Tommy remembered the life of Houdini, or the fact that Eric Weiss had been born with his own lynx daemon with deep tans and a leaner frame.
It was odd...and yet it fit. Just like it fit when Sassy touched him that day she was sick.
Just like it fit when, a week later, Tommy was caught red-handed, stroking Bast’s head gently as he stood on the counter in Tommy’s kitchen while Sassy came out of the fridge to find her cub being petted.
“See? I so knew you wanted to touch my daemon.”
It was odd to have a male daemon, odd to have a daemon that knew more than Tommy did...and still stranger to have a daemon that would openly rub against his girlfriend’s ankles while he was rubbing hers between his ears.
Still, nothing was stranger than the way Sassy could turn that innocent remark into the filthiest kind of innuendo imaginable, and still be adorable while doing it.
Fortunately for her, living with a guy like Theus...Tommy had a taste for strange.
