This is going to be long, I expect. The book in question is CCNA Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide, by Todd Lammle, 6th edition, Sybex.

The day CDP saves a life instead of totally fucking up a network is a vanishingly small ratio, I'm sure. It's right up there with a flapping BGP route being broadcast and taking down a corner of the internet.

This was a third-party book. The official ones were drier.

I think (from my freshly-minted cert!) that there's a ROM version of the IOS that will let you load a new one. If you can overwrite that, there are other problems :)

No, you didn't show it to me. You should have while I was in the class >:)
