Hello everyone!
I rarely post, so I thought I'd get you up to speed in the comings and goings of my life:

My job: Work is always stressful; however, with exceptionally large budget cuts looming, it has made for quite a journey this year. Looks like I will be safe from a layoff (thank goodness), but I may be back in the classroom next year. I'm "too ( Read more... )

Sorry about that. The complete response was too large to post so I had to break it into two comments... hah :) Anyway, here's the rest:

Now, most of us in the non-devout, secular thinking religious world would cheer Flynn on. We see no harm in including “Frosty the Snowman”… come on! However, it is this same sort of mentality Hoffman/Flynn seems to have when it comes to what he is being accused of. Almost nothing is directly said as to what exactly he is being accused of other than giving a boy some liquor. There is no direct statement or accusation made by anyone regarding inappropriate sexual behavior. We just assume it… which I think is interesting on yet another level. But Hoffman’s performance gives credence that something else has transpired… which like I said is another reason I feel he is supposed to be guilty in the movie.

Hoffman exudes an attitude that he loves the boy, and that love is a good thing, regardless of the “form” that it takes. And that is what he is asking Sister Aloysius to be tolerant of. By doing this, he almost admits guilt, as if to say “I’m guilty… but I love the boy… I care about him… I take care of him and look after him… I have not hurt him… so why can’t I just have this one little thing? Why can’t you just be a little more understanding and tolerant of our relationship?”

Finally what makes me think he is guilty, or supposed to be in the movie, is the end result of the movie. I don’t want to blow the ending for anyone on livejounral so I’ll just say that what ultimately convinces Sister Aloysius in the end convinces me. I have the same attitude. If you’d care to discuss it further, let me know on the side. That way nothing is spoiled.
