Alex's pager went off at his hip, startling him slightly as he watched the surgery below him still underway. Mainly his thoughts were filled with how he should be down there helping Dr. Bailey with the bilateral vivisection of that mans heart, but instead he was still on the Gynie-Squad. It was getting worse too, because every time he stepped over a line Satan had opted to push him further back with a bit of a time out.
Now it seemed he was on babysitting duty. He knew Kyle had been getting progressively worse, but calling in outsiders that were literally from the other side of the country was just taking it to an extreme. He wanted to speak up and make mention of the fact that probably the only reason she was doing this was to get the hospital to pay for her sister to visit.
Everyone knew by now that things between the doctors Shepherd had gone south, and if she was going to take it out on Alex he was going to at least make sure he had something up his sleeve. The problem was that he didn't. Instead he hadn't been completely focused on getting out of the baby wing, because that meant he'd have to face Izzie, and he wasn't sure if he was ready for that yet. Izzie had been going through a lot, and having Alex get in the middle of the whole Denny fiasco hadn't help things at all. He just knew she couldn't make the mistake of falling for a patient... not when Alex himself still didn't know how he felt about Izzie. Then the marriage proposal came out of nowhere and Alex's head went into a tailspin. Everything up to that point hadn't been in focus, and that just blurred it all.
When his pager went off a second time he actually grabbed it and took a glance to it. "Great, more babysitting," he mumbled under his breath as he stood up taking one final glance to the surgery floor. Shaking his head in slight frustration he headed back upstairs to the NICU, where Kyle had no doubt been treated by the 'Wonderful Dr. House' and his little pep squad of do-gooders.
Rubbing the back of his head for a moment he glanced to Kyle in the incubator, then back to his chart. "Really? I mean... that was it? Why the hell didn't I see that?"
Alex was confused at the simplicity of it, and now even more convinced that this Dr. House was a nutjob. There was no way it was that simple, and if that meant he had to babysit through the night, then that was going to just have to be the answer to it. No matter how much it pissed him off.
