Василий мучительно долдонит Тютчева "Есть в осени первоначальной...", а я в другой комнате сижу кормлю Степана, читаю Стейнбека "Travels with Charley. In search of America" и дохожу до чудесного пассажа про вермонтскую осень:
"The climate changed quickly to cold and the trees burst into color, the reds and yellows you can't believe. It isn't only color but a glowing, as though the leaves gobbled the light of the autumn sun and then released it slowly. There's a quality of fire in these colors."
Да, так и есть. Именно сейчас, в эти дни. В Вермонте вся эта роскошь, судя по тому что пишет Стейнбек, начинается аккурат после Labor Day, а у нас, выходит, на полтора месяца позже. God bless NY.
