I like the winter better. Springtime shakes everything loose, and everything starts rolling around and inevitably gets all jumbled up. I prefer the winter. I also prefer to be young and stupid and reckless, instead of all wrapped up in consequences and responsibility and shit. Being perpetually in-between adult and stupid-kid-hood creates a fundamental conflict between what I want to do and what I'm ACTUALLY doing, which I'm sure is driving me to my grave day by day. It wouldn't be so bad if I could just let go of those hard-won life 'lessons' (usually in the form of some self-imposed misery) or semi-autonomic impulses that compel me towards any number of retarded doings almost daily.
As usual, my postings are inversely proportional to the amount of crap going on. Played los first show last week, opening for Tilly and the Wall. It was an entertaining evening, full of... well, actually, everything went too smoothly for it to be a very good rock and roll story. We played well, especially for our first outing, but not exceptionally so. Still some loose screws here and there, some forgetting of cardinal rules of rock music (thou shalt always have a beat, for one), but fuck it. Rome wasn't built in a day. A couple weak spots in the set, which aren't BAD, necessarily, but falling somewhere between listenable and the aspired-to 'epic'. Oh well, it's sink or swim little song babies. I can't carry you fuckers forever. There's always another silly thing to sing about.
Prospective weekend came and went-- we wined and dined the next generation of suckers (future grad students). Everybody was nice, we drank a lot, talked up the school and Salt Lake when possible. Not too much of a chore, as I really do like it here. Grad school is kinda down in the 'ol rankings of late, as somebody pointed out at one party or another. If I was inclined to worry about things like that, I might, but it's just not worth the bother. As a result of all my semi-socializing, etc., I'm catastrophically behind in my work, coinciding neatly with absolutely gorgeous springtime weather. (Hey fuck it, I don't have to like the springtime, but I'd be an idiot to complain about blue skies and sunshine.)
