Characters: Keito-centric. HSJ. (sorta) Hikato. Shintaro-Keito friendship
Disclaimer: Nope
Summary: Keito is left hurt by his mother's continuous absences from his concerts.
AN: Keito never really talks about his parents the way the other members do in magazine articles and stuff, which doesn't mean he has a bad relationship with them but I think it can be kind of perceived in that way. So uh, yeah. Enjoy?
9. Disappointment
Waving enthusiastically to the screaming audience, Keito forced a smile on his face as he scanned the first few rows, his eyes darting back and forth between each face as he looked for one in particular. However, he couldn’t find her, no signs of her curled hair and eyes similar to his own. Sighing sadly, Keito’s shoulder slumped as they left the stage, his eyes falling to the ground as he followed the others to their dressing room.
“That was great!” Chinen exclaimed excitedly, grabbing his duffle bag for a change of clothes, “All of the screams gave me so much energy!”
“Same here,” Yabu replied, clapping Rytuaro on the back, “Your solo was amazing Ryu-chan, have you been practicing more?”
Ryutaro nodded, glowing as everyone took turns praising the baby of the group, except Keito who was sitting on the floor, cell phone in hand, “Ne, Keito!” Yuto called out to him, “Didn’t Ryutaro do a great job tonight?”
“Yeah,” Keito mumbled in English, not taking his attention away from his cell phone, eyes glued to the tiny screen.
“Keito?” Yabu walked over to the other and sat down next to him, laying a hand on his shoulder, “You alright?”
“Yeah,” Keito shook off Yabu’s hand, standing up and grabbing his duffle bag, “I’ll meet you guys by the van,” he said, before leaving the room, the door slamming shut behind him.
The rest of the members looked from one to another, confused and concerned for their friend.
17. Indignation
“I shouldn’t even be fucking surprised,” Keito mumbled angrily to himself, walking down the hallways of the concert hall they had just performed in, “Shouldn’t be surprised at all, of course she didn’t show up,” Keito sighed, blinking back his tears, “She never shows up.”
“Who never shows up?”
Keito jumped, whirling around to see Shintaro sitting outside of the junior’s dressing room, already dressed in his normal clothes, “Sorry to eavesdrop, but Okamoto-kun sounds really mad.”
“I am mad,” Keito surprised himself by saying, and even more by taking a seat next to the younger boy, “Every concert we’ve had, I’ve invited my Mom but she never shows up, even though she promises she will.”
“That sucks,” Shintaro pouted, tilting his head to the side, “It must really hurt your feelings.”
Keito shook his head, “I’m just pissed off, not going to let her get the best of my emotions. She doesn’t deserve such credit,” Shintaro cringed at the harsh words, Keito throwing his head back against the wall, closing his eyes, “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” he whispered.
“It’s okay,” Shintaro grabbed Keito’s hand, squeezing it tight, “I guess I’d feel the same way, if my Mom wasn’t there for me and stuff.”
Before Keito could respond, the other juniors began exiting the dressing room and with a sympathetic smile, Shintaro got up and joined them.
Keito leaned forward a bit, before letting his head hit the wall again, ignoring the tears that began to run down his cheeks.
15. Grief
“Finally,” Keito grumbled, flopping onto the bed in the hotel room he shared with Hikaru, “I am exhausted.”
“I can tell,” Hikaru chuckled, jumping onto the bed and cuddling next to Keito, “You seemed really out of it in the dressing room, I mean you didn’t even change out of your costume before leaving.”
Keito looked over at Hikaru, rubbing his eyes in an attempt to get rid of the tears he knew he was close to shedding, “My Mom didn’t show up tonight.”
“Oh,” Hikaru said with a frown, “I’m really sorry dude.”
“Yeah,” Keito sniffled, rubbing at his eyes again but to no avail, as tears began making their way down his cheeks, “It hurts so much Hikaru, why doesn’t she ever come? I want her there so badly,” he cried out, breathing heavily as he rolled over and into Hikaru’s arms, who held him tightly as he sobbed on the older boy’s shoulder, “Why aren’t I important to her?”
“Your Mom isn’t perfect Keito, and she makes a lot of mistakes,” Hikaru rubbed his back, “But she loves you, and I know it doesn’t seem like it and a part of me wants to call and yell at her for making you this sad, but I know she loves you,” Keito tightened his grip on Hikaru’s shirt, pulling the other closer to him, “She just has crappy ways of expressing it.”
Keito chuckled, his tears beginning to subside and Hikaru continued to hold him the whole night through, sleeping peacefully in his each others arms.
