Captain's Log, Supplemental....

That honking big starship I mentioned a little while back, it's called a Fitzgerald-class Freighter. The guy who runs the Starship Modeler website answered a few queries for me about it. He thinks it appears briefly in one of the Animated Series episodes. I think he's wrong there, I know most of the Animated Trek starships pretty well and they were a really weird bunch to be sure, but I can't recall ever seeing this monster among them. He sent an orthographic view that manages to be ever odder than the model. I found it again here-

This is the work of a guy called "Mighty" Joe Homoki who's got a photobucket album of bizarre Trek ships and who has done some work on fan-produced FASA ship battle books amongst other things.

Also it turns out I could get the model. It's still in production, they do ship abroad and I can get a Polar Lights 1/1000 scale Enterprise via Amazon.

One small problem. The cost.

It's about £36 ($50) for a Polar Lights Enterprise. £36 ($50) for the Conversion Kit and a whopping £50 ($71) for shipping the latter over to the UK. It's heavy you see, lot of solid resin components, and postal rates from America to Britain are stupidly high at the moment.

So, no ship for me. Pity. I do like the design and have a plan to use it as a design submitted for the Starfleet Transport role that was eventually filled by the Ptolemy-class tug. This ship was rejected almost immediately and seemed to be doomed to exist as a footnote in the archives, but then a single example was built to fulfil a very specific need...
