Not done much newsworthy since we got back, recovered from a brief lurgi (me and the Wife), been enjoying tinkering with Star Frontiers. Decided to adapt the "Landmaster" multi-trailer exploration vehicle concept I'd worked out for the Justifiers RPG for this game instead, renamed it the "Landstrider" (a "Dark Crystal" reference), simplified it considerably, adjusted the scale a bit. Having fun with that. Since it was pay day a few days ago I took the plunge and ordered the Knight Hawks supplement on Amazon, from an American dealer called "Wayne's Books" (
http://www.waynesbooks.com/). I've bought from them before and they're good, know their stuff, and since they were the only people giving a complete condition listing and photos of the actual objects I considered it worth the additional postal costs. The order was in transit the next day and should be with me soon, looking forward to getting hold of it.
I was saddened to hear of the death of James Horner, he was one of my favourite film composers. One of the big names along with Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Jerry Goldsmith and John Williams. Battle Beyond the Stars, American Tail, Wrath of Khan, Krull, Cocoon, Aliens, Willow, Braveheart, Apollo 13, Rocketeer, Titanic, Jumanji, Mask of Zorro, Spiderwick Chronicles, Avatar... And those are just the ones I've got in my CD collection. I'd been listening to Aliens and Wrath of Khan on my little mp3 player that very day, a great loss, but we will always have his music.
The weather is finally improving in this neck of the woods. Finally getting some long warm evenings to take a stroll around Woodford golf course in or to sit out in our small patio area with a beer after dinner and watch the night slowly draw in. It's about time, been a cold spring and the summer didn't seem to kick off at all until the Solstice. The ducks have obviously thought so too, all of a sudden there are two families on our local duck pond, a total of ten fluffy little ducklings to join the now nearly grown goslings, the Moorhen chicks and another family of geese that have just appeared. Getting quite crowded on there actually.
