Merge Rant

I have to rant today, about merging when a lane is closed. Most of you fail at this.

If a sign says "Right lane closed 1 mile", it DOES NOT MEAN YOU NEED TO GET INTO THE LEFT LANE NOW.

If I am in the left lane and you put your blinker on, I am not letting you in. There is no reason to. We are all headed to the same destination, so stay in your lane.

There is a point where you should merge. That place is THE POINT WHERE THE 2 LANES MERGE. That's why there's a blinking arrow and barrels there.

If I am in the right lane (the one that's ending), I am NOT going to merge before that point. Again, there is no reason to. Why would we leave the right lane empty, creating a traffic back-up that is twice as long as it should be? Do not leave empty space on the highway, that's just wasteful. Besides, it creates traffic problems miles back where there shouldn't be any!

A beautiful thing happens when everyone stays in their lane and merges at the merge point; cars interleave like fingers, one at a time alternating between lanes.

But you won't let this happen, will you? Nope, you're going to move your SUV into the middle and block the right lane. Ha! That'll show them. Who is them? The people 3 miles back, I guess, since you're just artificially making the merging lines longer. But beware, I won't let you block me. I'll go around, because it's funny to let your children in the back see what kind of cursing lunatic you are when you think you're right and I have wronged you.
