Angels Prefer Heaven
Hope is dimmed 'longside a candle's flame
At a loss for words, we cling to all that remains
A life uncertain tunneled into a strife
Bleeding into the night
Hope is lost within the hands of fate
A brief reminder that it's never too late
In giving into a calm, and releasing the wheel
And the wound will heal ...in knowing
(*)Angels prefer heaven, where the blind can see
Where the crippled are walking, and the voiceless are singing in true harmony
A limitless dream, on the wings of the free
Angels prefer heaven, in the arms of peace
Hope is gathered through the annuls of time
Shinging brightly it comes, our grieving hearts unified
The mind's uncertainty will feed us subtle fears in reprise
As we fall into the night
Hope is gained despite the ashes left over
Cutting so deep, it's apt to run for cover
There's no question that the scars are eternal
Though the wound will heal ...in knowing
(*)
A holied walk for those in need
Shelter from all the anger and greed
A life encouraged in a warmth & release
Of the limitaions you & I receive
(*)

While playing at the Oceanside pier, a woman approached me with the song title and asked if I could expand on it. Also, she told me a story about what inspired the title; a friend of hers had recently lost a child at only five weeks. With the child's middle name being "Hope", I wanted to incorporate that into it; and regarding the subject matter of the tune, being quite the atheist, I approached the idea of "Heaven" as purely a metaphor.
