The plum is a clue

 Love Song for Lucinda

Love
Is a ripe plum
Growing on a purple tree.
Taste it once
And the spell of its enchantment
Will never let you be.

Love
Is a bright star
Glowing in far Southern skies.
Look too hard
And its burning flame
Will always hurt your eyes.

Love
Is a high mountain
Stark in a windy sky.
If you
Would never lose your breath
Do not climb too high.

-- Langston Hughes

So I got a collection of Hughes poetry from the library Monday and I love so many of them that I just can't pick only one. It's possible I'll be posting poem after poem. Oh well!

In other news, things are good. I'm happy and excited. My life is moving forward in directions I didn't necessarily plan but which make me happy. I feel like there are several possibilities before me and anyone of them (or more than one maybe) will be good additions to my life.

I am actively pursuing jobs in Indy. Well, as actively as I do anything.

Another semi-active pursuit is my writing. I've written two poems recently -- one good and one not-as-good. I have story ideas rattling around in my head. I have poetry lines scribbled in a notebook. And if the good poem ever finds it's essential and proper title, I'll post it here for everyone to read.

Apparently I need a skill for the "end times" -- when the world runs out of fossil fuels and everyone is forced back into an agricultural lifestyle. I could be whored out in trade, it's true. But really, i think my competition in that industry may be heavy and it would be helpful to have a fall-back plan. My new friend, she-who-does-not-yet-have-a-nickname, has offered to teach me to sew -- which i'd love to do... wonder if i should get an un-electric machine? :)

I'm off to Indy this weekend. Get to see Bottecelli and BK both. Bottecelli will officially be out of school for the summer and will either be ready to celebrate or asleep. :)

I am loving horse racing! First it's a sport that is over in two minutes -- gotta love that. It has pretty horses and little tiny men. There is something incredibly powerful about watching those horses just run. I've joined a handicapping contest (you pick horses and place imaginary wagers on many races to see who would have made the most money if they'd actually bet). The Kentucky Oaks was yesterday and my horse won! Proud Spell was her name and I picked her several races ago because she made me think of my Panda. And she's a great horse -- tactical speed, strenght and pretty! Today is the Derby and I haven't quite made my pick. If I were betting I'd put money on Big Brown, Z Fortune, and Eight Belles...maybe Court Vision too. But I only get to pick one horse for the contest and I can't choose between my two favorites, the filly or the not-so-longshot. Gotta decide by race time!

Time to get back to work. It looks like we will be closing at noon from now on instead of one. Good news on Saturdays but it means i have to make up that hour somewhere during the week. Not sure how much i like that. It's hard to stay late when it's so beautiful outside.

Hope everyone is healthy and happy!
