il tapiro d'oro a gilardino

Remember that whole Gila scandal last year? The one about Gila being photographed in a compromising situation with a girl who was not Alice? I knew you'd remember. For those who don't, the story goes that paparazzo Fabrizio Corona was making his rounds and setting up celebrities by introducing them to attractive young ladies on their nights off so that he could take incriminating photos and then go ahead  and offer to sell the photos exclusively back to said celebrities, hence keeping them out of the magazines. Gila was one amoung many calciatori who were essentially blackmailed into paying off Corona in exchange for the unpublished photos. It was said that when the police were on to the scam they questioned Gila who then went to Corona and informed him of the police's investigation. I don't know how much of that last part is true but that's the way the story was reported.

Cut to a busy Milan street where we find an unsuspecting Gila in his car when the Striscia cameras approach and Valerio Staffelli with microphone in hand gets ready to ask the hard hitting questions.

*The Tapiro d'Oro, a small golden statue, is a special ~prize~ delivered to celebrities or politicians who have been humiliated in public.

ETA SANDRO ON C'É POSTA PER TE. Watch how uncomfortable he is. To view, copy and paste the following into your browser: mms://video.jumpy.it/adcepostaperte/2007/11/C_7_video_206_filevideo.wmv?v=adcepostaperte/2007/11/C_7_video_206_filevideo.wmv

The couple had 9 kids and one of them passed away. The pain had been too much for them to bear and weren't taking it well at all. Their kids take them there to tell them that they can go on b/c they still have a lot they need to do in their lives, they have a big family that loves them and needs them and they want them to live a happy life but most of all for their late son b/c he lives through them. He is happy when Milan plays and wins and is smiling knowing that his hero the great defender is there to meet them.  (The way the lady caresses his back when he sits down...*tear*) Sandro says...

It's a pleasure to have met you; your marvelous children, it's a pleasure to have been standing so close to them. I feel like I'm sitting beside my mother and my father (the man says thank you) but I think you've experienced more in life than anyone. But I want to tell you something because your children need this... after I came to know of everything that has happened, all that you've been through and all that you've overcome...but I come from the world of calcio. In calcio you need to have a leader, strong people - for example the captain or the president - in which the others look to to drive them forward. In this moment your children are in need of someone like that - someone who will show them how to move on, someone to be an example for them in this difficult moment and I think you are those people. (The couple says thank you).
