San Lorenzo Discussion Post: Bottinelli Attacked

This is terrible. When I first read the news I couldn't believe that this happened, especially to a player so deeply involved with this club, not only as a player, but as a member ( Read more... )

Is his re-election a sign of apathy among Argentines? how can it be a sign of apathy when we don't get to choose, when we're not the ones that vote? It's the presidents that do, and they are either as corrupt as Grondona, and benefit from his business, or their clubs are in so much debt with the AFA that they can't afford to oppose him. Even the clubs that are strong enought to do it and publicly speak against his re-election (All Boys, Velez) don't actually go and vote against him. They just don't show up at the assembly. That's why they had 46 votes in favor and 3 not present.
Everyone I know despises Grondona. Everyone I know despises the hooligans. But I've said this a million times, you can't do anything without political help and the politics need the hoolingans, so that's that for now.
It is insanely common for a barra to go have a conversation with the players, to threaten them. It happened to Huracán, it happened to Independiente (only talking about the last year and off the top of my head). It's a practice called "apriete".
Onto the SL issue, while there was a discussion with the barra, the one that punched Bottinelli was Migliore. Botti is not leaving after all. So, they made a huge deal out of this (it's disgusting and awful, don't get me wrong), but they had no problem letting two opposing sides of Boca's barrabrava enter la Bombonera last Sunday. We're talking about Boca hooligans that sing that they'll kill each other, etc, in a stadium full of people. Do you realize how dangerous that was? If they'd actually confronted each other? And what's gonna happen when they both go to Velez for the next match, are they peacefully going to share the away fans stand?
The AFA doesn't make sense. The organizations in charge of security don't make sense. Things won't change because they'll never care about the players or the fans, they only care about the money in their pockets.

...when we're not the ones that vote? It's the presidents that do...
Thanks for clarifying that. I was thinking more that the club presidents should be taking the fans' wishes and making them real. Does no one care about the fans? The TRUE fans, who love and support the team, and who care passionately about the players and the team's standings in the Primera. I guess not. I guess money is still almost everyone's #1 priority in life. :(

When I saw barras in a movie threatening a player, I laughed. (It was Rudo y Cursi, a comedy.) But in real life it isn't funny at all. :(

So it was really Migliore who punched Botti? Okay, that's different than if a fan did it, and now I can understand why he'd want to leave.

I remember watching a documentary called Sacachispas (I hope I spelled it right) about a 4th-division team and its fans, more so the barras associated with that club. They were horrifying, only in that they seemed like normal guys. Until they started talking about actually killing fans from a rival team, and bragging about it! The film was an eye opener in so many ways.

When you say the AFA doesn't make sense, that statement makes the most sense of all. :(

Does no one care about the fans?
You've hit the nail on the head, Jenni. In the end, that's all you need to understand about argie football: the fact that you have the most passionate fans, the ones who give everything to the club, who travel to Mendoza on a monday night to support, who spend money, who donate money, who help the kids from the youth system, who give their time and energy to the club... and you have everyone else, caring about making money, and stealing it, and benefitting in every way possible. No. No one cares about the fans.
