Am currently reading The Filth, a comic book series by Grant Morrison, Chris Weston and Gary Erskine. It's deviant stuff.
This is the second time round for me and I'm still really impressed by the audaciousness of it all. The whole superhero thing is twisted beyond recognition, along with the entire underbelly of society. Characters literally fly out of the pages leaving the 2D paper world behind them. Layers of reality are created, subverted, created, subverted...
Greg Feely is a balding, sinister loner with a penchant for hardcore pornography and a cat, Tony, whom he loves dearly. He is also Special Constable Ned Slade, Hand Supercleansing Operations. The Hand is a high-tech organisation, sort of a cross between the council binmen and a secret police force*. They're the ones who clean up when things get really out of hand, like when giant sperm start flying around attacking fertile women. That sort of thing.
That it's all tied up by the end is a feat of perversity in itself. Not one stable, recognisable thing happens throughout but it does make sense. At least, I'm sure it did last time. If nothing else, it'll ask you "why do we fetishise our garbage in shiny vinyl?"
*'The Filth' - geddit?
