Day one of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge says: In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.
Here we go.
Keep Me Guessing (Gundam Wing, Trowa/Quatre, PG) isn't one of my main pairings, and it's not the best fic that ever existed - I even accidentally put the 12 days of Christmas leading up to Christmas instead of starting on Christmas, which I was informed later was wrong - but I think, for me, it represents the power of fandom. I got this idea from Sharon's short prompt of 'Quatre surprising Trowa with something', and in one sitting, I wrote this. Every gift was thought up in the moment of writing - I planned nothing. So when I look back and see this fic with twenty-four gifts that I wrote in one seven or so hour sitting from a five word prompt, I'm amazed. This is the power of fandom - the power to inspire and move in monumental ways and to coax our souls out of us in one fell swoop.
Juxtaposition is currently four parts. This is another example of fandom inspiration - I have written all four pieces for the
Porn Battle (which is a multi-fandom challenge so famous that even having 'Porn' in the name, a Google search still turns up half a page of the challenge before any actual porn appears), and I plan to add to it during the next Porn Battle, coming up here in January sometime. In the Porn Battle, the prompts are merely one word - for the first piece, Melting, the prompt was simply 'Frost'. Out came porn, as was the point, but also something much more profound that I found myself continuing in the companion piece, Losing Faith, for which the prompt was 'Opaque'. This was the first time I'd ever written companion pieces, and they're still two of my most precious pieces - the raw emotion that I somehow captured is poignant, and the juxtaposition of their thoughts is amazing to me, to think I could capture it that way. In fact, since this wasn't originally meant to be a series, the name for Juxtaposition actually came from a reader's comment;
Qem_Chibati said, "Interesting how the two look at the same event in different ways but in similar ways as well. Hikaru wanting to melt Akira, and is succeeding, though he thinks he's failing, was a really interesting juxtaposition of events." I loved the way she put it so much, that I decided to title the series 'Juxtaposition'. This is definitely one of my favorite pieces, and it's been difficult to stick to my guns when it comes to not writing for this outside of the Porn Battle - especially since I missed the last two.
Juxtaposition (Hikaru no Go, Akira/Hikaru, NC-17):
Melting Losing Faith Shifting Running It might seem weird to include the
Crack!Fic Battle in this list, but this is more of that wondrous inspiration (can you tell I place a great deal of worth on it?) where the strangest things come out. In this post, you'll find an entire universe (The McGiggles Universe) created by
Java_Mint and myself where the Gundam Pilots have alternate identities when they aren't working at the Preventors. It is HILARIOUS, and all inspired by a few fun prompts. This is the kind of round robin that just happens - when fandom lovers come together, beautiful things emerge. And silly things, like everything in this post. Drabble wars like this one are what makes fandom special - we really know how to have fun and truly enjoy the characters that we share a mutual love for.
I'll Keep You My Dirty Little Secret is an article I wrote for
Ogeeku, in which I rally for fandom to stand up and be proud - what we do is special, and it has worth, and we can't let anyone make us feel differently. I'm including it here because I feel it really fits the theme of the Fandom Snowflake Challenge. Be proud, fandom!
