as a writer, today i think i received a piece of literature that rings true with my writing style and with my heart.
if the introduction to Daniel Armand "Tablo" Lee's book, Pieces of You; 당신의 조각글 isn't an attestment to how good this book is going to be...I don't know what is.
My heart was closed. Cold.
I was self-concious and cynical.
These are the pieces of my youth,
the small secrets and the not-so-great expectations that defined my coming of age.
But through this craft, through my love for writing,
I found a world outside the small windowless one I had built for myself.
A world of softspoken beauty.
So here I am,
choosing to kick away the ladder,
so that I may remain at your side.
I understand your solitude.
I see your shadow.
- Tablo, Feb. 2009
For those of you, into Korean culture or not, read this book. It's a collection of 10 short stories that ring with the true, simple complexities of life...and are written in a breath taking voice.
This will be perfect to read through during my drive to Texas.
