I have some news that I need to announce…I have kept quiet this week, because I didn’t want to say anything until it was confirmed…and it is now. I am sorry for not letting important people know (Britt, Julie, Stephanie, Jackie, Waru…) but, I have said I was going to do something like this before, and it has been shitty before. I will contact said important people personally, everyone else - you can deal with this.
My mom, as some of you know, works at Spirit of the Red Horse, a western style clothing and gift shop in the Denver International Airport. She is one of the top managers, and is known for her skill at working in a high volume environment.
Well, she got a job offer. In Houston. Yes, Houston, Texas. It’s the same salary, same store, just in Houston, Texas.
Where does this leave me? Well, at first, my answer was “No.” No way. Why the hell would I want to go to Houston, Texas? I have a job that has health insurance and friends here in Denver. But then, I thought about it - why not? I want to give you all reasons, so feel free to read on.
- I have serious, chronic dry skin. Houston is wet, wet = healed dry skin
- I hate my job. I’m taken advantage of there, and treated wrongly by my boss. I plan to quit the job anyways.
- Houston, Texas, is extremely cheap. In that state, I could finally get on my own feet, get a car, my own place.
- Houston is a big, big city. There’s tons of art, and museums and things of that sort.
- I love Denver, but I am tired of more of the same. As our president would say, “it’s time for change.”
Truly, nothing is permanent. I hate it - I come back. I love it - I can still come back.
I will miss my friends so much, but at the same time, I cannot imagine leaving my mom. She’s all of my back bone. I, of course, take a lot of back bone from my Dad - He’s a major supporter in my life, and I will miss him. But, I have left before. Remember Los Angeles? Remember Florida? He never stopped supporting me, and neither did most of my friends.
So. My mom has to start work March 16th. I’ll be visiting Houston to find places to live, and also to check it out. If I absolutely hate it when I go down there, then I won’t go.
But, I don’t think I will.
