When living with four other people for so long, you get to recognize them just by their footsteps in the hallway, Jaejoong learns. It gives him an odd sense of intimacy with his members, as if he could tell them apart in any other situation, and it feels safe to know that he’ll always be aware of them being around. That if he feels lost, he can just listen, reach out and follow them.
But the one he recognizes best is Yoochun, for some reason. Maybe it’s because sometimes it feels like he’s a boat out at sea in the middle of the night and Yoochun is the lighthouse that guides him-maybe it’s just because he has such a distinct walk that there’s no denying that it’s him when he’s right outside their bedroom.
That’s why he’s looked up from his laptop before Yoochun has even poked his head in the doorway, and maybe the other is aware of it, because he doesn’t even question it. Instead, he smiles and holds up a bottle of green cream.
“Yunho said your sunburn was pretty bad. Let me see.”
Jaejoong shakes his head. “It’s nothing.”
“Stop trying to be all independent and manly, hyung. It doesn’t suit you. Shirt off, on your stomach.”
And Jaejoong can’t help but obey-not without a pretend-annoyed sigh just for good measure, even though Yoochun sees right through it-and take his shirt off, hissing slightly at the pain. So much for pretending it’s nothing. He lies down and pillows his head on his arms, hearing Yoochun whistle in sympathy as the bed dips beside him.
“It’s nothing? Your shoulders are a darker shade than Christmas balls,” Yoochun scolds, squirting some of the after-sun lotion into his hand and starting to rub it lightly over his inked skin. Jaejoong winces, and so does Yoochun. “I’m sorry.”
“It doesn’t hurt, it tickles.”
“Liar.”
They fall silent after that, Jaejoong letting himself be calmed down by Yoochun’s gentle touch and the sweet scent of coconut that comes from the moisturizer. He’s practically fallen asleep when the other’s done, trailing fingers light over his spine, and tracing the letters of his name. He can’t help but smile and get lost in feeling every black curve, absorbed into it until Jaejoong’s muscles jump slightly.
“Now that tickles.”
“That I can believe.”
They both chuckle quietly and in a bout of confidence, Yoochun leans down, pressing feather-like kisses against his skin until Jaejoong gets bored of it-he’s never been patient with those things-and pushes himself up, shifting to pull the other against him. When they look at each other, they share a smile and a kiss, and probably a hundred secrets.
“Thanks for the lotion. It’s finally cooled my skin down.”
Yoochun runs a hand up Jaejoong’s thigh and smiles against his lips. “I can make it heated again pretty quickly, you know.”
“Oh, fuck you. We were having a moment.”
“Like we need to have moments.”
Jaejoong grins, kissing him again.
It’s not that Yoochun walks so distinctly, he thinks. It’s just that he shines a little brighter in the dark.
