Untouchable

I've finally finished watching Untouchable after waiting for ages for the subs to come out.

Untouchable is about Narumi Ryoko, a reporter for a third rate magazine. Despite her position, she considers herself a first rate reporter and is extremely persistent in finding out the details behind all the mysterious incidents that come her way. Somehow, it seems that all the scandals she reports on, mostly based on tip offs from Anonymous, a character whose identity she tries to figure out, all link to something more sinister. Each episode is a small story which she chases after to uncover the truth, and in doing so, she uncovers more and more of the organisation behind these incidents, which she is determined to expose. Ultimately, she also uncovers the identity of Anonymous, the mastermind, and discovers the truth.

Generally, the mystery unfolds quite nicely until nearer the end. The small mystery in each episode seems to be resolved quite easily, but the linking of each case to the bigger mystery was quite intriguing, i felt. However, nearer the end when you come closer to the truth, the events seem to happen a bit too haphazardly for my liking.

I was also able to figure out the identity of Anonymous a couple of episodes before the end, so i guess that killed off some of the suspense that was intended. And once Anonymous was revealed, the rest of the story became rather cheezy and predictable, right down to the culprits slightly maniacal revelation of everything and the foiling of his plan.

It's also interesting how they used something so controversial as a charity organisation as the evil organisation in the story. I kept thinking how they could put something like that on TV! What if the credibility of all charitable organisations is ruined after that?! Haha...

I started watching this drama cos i like mysteries and cos of Nakama Yukie. After her performances in Gokusen and Trick, i've become a bit of a fan of hers. Unfortunately, i found her acting in this drama a bit dull, like she was trying too hard to make her character funny. Or perhaps it's just that this character she plays isn't that appealing to me? :/

Overall, though the ending was less than satisfactory for me, i found the build up and the little mysteries quite worth watching. After most episodes, i would want to continue watching the next to find out what happens (my personal barometer for how interesting a drama is).
