Hidarime Tantei EYE

Watching Yamada Ryosuke geting punched in the face at least once per episode isn't as interesting as it seems :D

This far-fetched story about how a junior high student sees images in his left eye after a cornea transplant from his brother turned out better than i expected. It started with a, imo, not very well done SP where we learn that Ainosuke's brother staged his death after the transplant and became some super criminal mastermind. Using the images he sees in his left eye when he gets hit (which explains why he gets punched in the face at least once per episode), he and his school nurse help the police to thwart his brother's plans.

The criminal plot was surprisingly interesting. I loved how each case linked to the next, but i wasn't sure what the actual purpose of everything was at the end. What's the point of wanting to destroy the whole city? Everything before was leading to Ainosuke remembering something he forgot, but then the bombing the city thing seemed really out of point after that. It was such a waste cos the mystery started off quite well.

Although the criminal plan was quite interesting, there were a lot of dumb things occurring throughout the show. Like when Ainosuke was threatened not to reveal the identity of his brother or whoever he tells this to will die, he could have found many other ways around that. Although he managed to piece obscure clues from his eye together, he couldn't think of how to get round this? Simple things like this were not handled well and it seemed that these dumb things had to be done to move the story along more. I think the show as a whole would have been better if they had built a stronger story and put more thought into it rather than having their characters do silly things.

I felt quite sad for Ainosuke at the end cos his life seemed so tragic! But, then again, it's a drama. They'd better not come out with a season 2 though. That'd be pushing it.

It's an ok mystery story, so if you're a mystery fan, you can watch this. And i'm sure Yamada fans would definitely watch this too :)
