Hmm. Ultraman Cosmos is leaving me pretty cold so far. Bad CG, a rather bug-eyed hero, and lots of "But we LIKE monsters, let's all just get along!" is making me wince. Plus some really bad uniforms. They're blue instead of orange or yellow, but somehow the costume designers managed to make them ugly anyway. Sigh. Oh well, it's traditional. (The HK subs are sometimes rather hilarious though. Like the captain trying to convince Our Hero to join the monster-fighting team with a "To be frank, I'm attracted to you." *laughs self once more into coughing fit* I'm absolutely positive that is really not how the line was supposed to come out...) And apparently Nishina (Ryuu's actor from Moebius) is in one of the Cosmos movies, so no matter what I have to watch that one. I'd had no clue he had previous Ultraman experience.
(Adding on as I watch more... wow, Musashi is a moron. Lamest excuse for "I'm not dead because I'm Ultraman" EVER. Couldn't he at least just have said "Ultraman saved me" or something? It's technically true, even... oh, and I strongly suspect that there are at least some music guys in common between this and Moebius, because the "Let's launch the planes to a really dumb song" song is astonishingly similar...)
(*wince* And now Ultraman is using "crane style" or something... I seriously don't think I'm going to be able to get all the way through this show. Maybe I'll just skim looking for good parts, if there are any. :P)
(Uh... I think my brain just broke. Not only did another familiar actor from Moebius just show up (I forget his name in Tiga, he's also Marina's racing-coach guy), but someone I just saw a whole bunch of in Gaia just turned up. This by itself is not so unusual, but I swear he's supposed to be exactly the same type of character, because he's acting the same way, has the same hairstyle, seems to be a leader of Men in Black types again, and he's even wearing what looks like an awfully similar suit. O_o Uh, okay, very confused now...)
On the bright side, I finally found the rest of JAKQ! OMG YAY. I've only been wanting to see this show since I first started collecting sentai. I'm REALLY curious about it because of Ishinomori's influence, and I already know that Big One is awesome, so hopefully everyone else will be too. Okay, it's from the 70s so the costumes and all will be awful, but I don't care. I must see it.
Yes, I am posting like mad and watching a crazy huge amount of toku right now. But toku plus LJ is keeping me nicely distracted from the bronchitis so I'm pretty content with this...
