The Snake and the Moon
By Ryo Hoshi
4.
Medusa's school days pushed her acting skills to their limits.
Before, her understanding of normal humans was, well, minimal.  Her mother had left her mostly in Arachne's care, and her eldest sister had never really treated her like she was anything more than a tool to use to forward her own goals.  It wasn't quite as bad as the idea of being raised by their mother's favorite, who'd gone insane centuries ago  and likely would have dragged Medusa with her, but…  Witches were not  known for their child-rearing skills, for good reason.
Medusa still felt that she had turned out better than normals.
The witch society might be a nest of vipers, with cliques and plots and subterfuge-and then there were ones like her sister Kallisto, who was redefining 'batshit insane'-but at least, in Medusa's opinion, they were honest about it.  They never claimed to be nice.
The girls at school, on the other hand, did.  Persistently, and despite all evidence to the contrary.
Of course, the popular girls took every opportunity to make fun of the boyish bookworm.  In return, the nerd quietly plotted ways to pay  them back properly without blowing her cover.
It was, after all, what a proper witch was supposed to do with enemies.
Medusa was quite pleased to discover that the ultimate coup for the girls at Death City's regular high school was to manage to date a boy from Shibusen.
Of course, the second date was already planned, once again a double-date (did Stein have poor luck with dates?) with Spirit and Kami,  at Spirit's insistence.
She'd have to quietly manipulate the plans for the third date so  they would 'accidentally' be spotted by some of the gossips from her school…
This will turn out not to be filler, I promise.  I just wish my muse warned me sooner about how she was planning on keeping the pacing where I wanted it.

se, fanfiction, one night continuity, the snake and the moon
