So...not posted in a while. School's kept me busy, as did a stay in Japan. This is part of a series of Soul Eater fanfics I've got in progress, and is getting posted here first because...well...it's the most likely of the ones I have currently in progress to end up NSFW. (Or, at least, being a hard 'M' rating.) So, enjoy!
The Snake and the Moon

Medusa had studied Shibusen's hiring practices. If she wanted to infiltrate the school itself, she couldn't merely appear with no history aside from forged papers. More importantly, she needed to be a local; the only way to get inside otherwise would to be a meister or a weapon-in-training, and the only way to successfully infiltrate Shibusen by that route is to use one's own, authentic papers.
They didn't, however, vet the paperwork for incoming students at the regular schools within Death City.
It was amusingly easy to play a high school student. The only class she had any trouble with was history-it was strange to see what people believed happened, compared to what had really taken place-and people in Death City did not find it so strange for a teenager to be living on her own. So what if she neglected to clear up the neighbourhood's confusion when it came to which school she and her roommate attended?
It helped her act that puberty had come and finished without having had much effect upon her body. Medusa simply was not a beauty; her slim gymnast's build and barely-there breasts made her look like a twelve-year-old. At least it made it easy for her to pass herself off as a teenager…even as it and her apparent love of studying made her a social outcast.
She could get a boyfriend if she wanted to. Really, she could. She just didn't want to.
The highlight of her day was candy-striping at the city's hospital. Medusa hadn't actually gotten to study medicine first-hand, outside of the magic-and-herbal-based healing used by witches. Compared to what technology could do, though, there was only a narrow range of illnesses that could be cured by any witch's craft-the only witch who could do better was one who had the tanuki for her totem.
It was a bit of a shock at first, really. Medusa was used to being better-a snake-witch was, she'd been taught, almost as good as a tanuki-witch; after all, it had been a predecessor and ancestress of hers who had taught Aesculapius.
Still, she always loved acquiring fresh knowledge, even if it was merely new to her.
Medusa had arrived that night looking forward to work, and the occasional bit of sadism she might innocently sneak in as she'd been bothered once again about her lack of a boyfriend. It didn't seem to cross the minds of the cheerleader types that she might have things more important in her life than love-though, really, if she did it like they did, sex.
Sometime halfway through the shift, a redhead about her age came in, hauling along a younger, white-haired companion. It'd taken a little to realize that the redhead was male-she'd seen his back, and his long, loose hair, first-and a little longer for her to be certain that his companion was male as well. The two were not quite arguing at the moment.
Curious, she volunteered to take their forms over to them.
"…damn it, Stein, why are you still dating him? He's older, and…"
"Kami-sempai is older, too."
The redhead blushed. "She's not that much older!"
Medusa cleared her throat, and gave them a well-practised friendly smile. "Excuse me?" she said once they both were looking at her. "Could you please fill out these forms?"
She didn't actually need to feign surprise when she noticed the blood on the younger teen's top. She did need to pretend a bit of horror, though, to cover up her curiosity about him and the fact that he wasn't reacting like she'd expect.
Pain tolerance like this, in somebody who wasn't a witch… If Medusa hadn't known enough medicine already to know that Stein had gotten a painful wound-though, admittedly, not as serious as it looked-she'd not have believed it if she was told.
That kind of tolerance for pain wasn't supposed to happen in his kind. It made him so much more interesting than the normal run of non-witches, and she wanted to get a chance to examine him better…
When she collected the forms, she gave a quick glance at the name.
'Franken Stein'?
Well, she supposed such a strange name matched him well. There was the minor detail that he was a meister-but then, his friend had put himself down as Stein's emergency contact, so…the risk was not so bad, really.
And he was such an interesting specimen.
Notes: This is going to be from Medusa's PoV only. Some things will be explained later, maybe not in here; this story ties into the same continuity as One Night (on FF.net) and Another Night (not yet posted). C&C welcome, as I'm really interested in how many people like the adults...
