Day 2 of the Study-a-thon

Jun 03, 2008 18:20

So the studying for NPLEX Part 1has begun!!!  The exam in on August 5th and is composed of 5 individual tests on the subjects of Anatomy, Biochemistry & Genetics, Microbiology & Immunology, Pathology, & Physiology.  If I get below a 75% on more than 3 exams, then I have to retake all 5 of them in February.

At my current study rate (20 pages a day) I will have completed reading the review book for the exam in 23 days.  It's really not a hard rate to maintain, but certain sections are going to be more difficult to get through at that speed. For example: just reading which muscles insert and originate where, are innervated by what nerve, and have what action will not work.  I'm going to have to draw them out and spend some time reviewing them.  My plan is to have read it once by the end of June, then I can spend July reviewing and quizzing.  Wish me luck!

I'm still looking for a summer job.  I have an interview tomorrow at a health food store.  I wish I had more of my loan money left over from last year, so that I could just spend the summer studying and getting my shadowing hours finished.  As part of our curriculum, I have to accrue 100 hours of shadowing health-care professionals before I graduate.  Sometimes, I am so jealous of my friends who come from money or who's families understand and support studying all summer for NPLEX instead of getting a job.  My friend, Nahida's, parents actually dissuaded her from getting a job, because she needed to study all summer.  I think my mom said she would help me out with groceries if I needed it, which is super nice.  I doubt my dad will help me at all, because he has to shell out $15,000 for my step-sister's Wedding.  In addition he probably has less than usual in his bank account, because of the cost of the surgery and the time off.

*Le sigh*  Money  = Worry for Katie
