why I love science nerds
An email was sent out about a special guest lecture coming up by a previous PhD student from UConn on my EEB Dept listserv. I get this email in reply from a professor in my dept:
Hi all,
Stan is well known to the older EEB faculty and staff around here (sad
to say I must include myself in that "older" category). On the one
hand, I remember enjoying many lunches with him, and discussing
hydrophilid beetles at great length (the objects of his dissertation
affections). On the other, I also remember him carefully collecting and
preserving a living, blood-filled pubic louse that he found crawling on
toilet seat of the second floor "faculty" bathroom. I believe it is
still in our teaching collection.
