It had taken a long time to find a road that led to New York. There were plenty of roads, but almost none he could use. They were still alive in a city like this. Lost, forgotten, but not dead. Eventually he had given up, and just followed the centipede smell, because even if New York had the protection of rats and birds, they had still infested ( Read more... )

"The tub really isn't big enough for both of us..." Dan said, looking at him, knowing exactly what the other was getting at.

He knelt beside the tub and fetched the cloth from where it hung, then dipped it into the water and began to move it over Neferti's back in a circular motion. It was as much a massage as it was a bath.

"Perhaps if you want to share, a shower would be better. Next time."

Neferti gave Dan a small, sulky look but it didn't last very long and it had faded away once Dan began to run the cloth over him. He could hold a grudge forever, but he was also very easily placated.

"Alright. But don't think you're going to get off so easily next time." Neferti said closing his eyes to enjoy the water the the cloth against his skin.

"Cute." Dan quipped; this sort of thing didn't bother him - he liked taking care of others. Even if Neferti had been a stranger, he would have done this very thing, without hesitation.

He gathered the other's hair up and held it with one hand as he rubbed at the back of his neck and over the shoulders. This was a new sort of intimacy, this everyday, ordinary sort of bond. They hadn't had a chance to really develop that yet, to get a sense for each other's usual routines.

Daniel drew back when he was finished, giving Neferti a little kiss to the temple.

Neferti gave a content murmur of pleasure as Dan rubbed his hands over his neck and shoulder and through his hair to hold it up. Such a casual and wholly intimate time and it satisfied him.

"At least until you tire of my constant need for affection." Neferti said, smiling and closing his eyes against the small kiss.

"I'll try to behave myself." He said.

"'Tire' is one word I doubt I will use in relation to you, Neferti..." Daniel whispered near the other's ear.

"If you want something, all you have to do is ask for it." He said, sitting back on his heels. "And I don't ever expect you to behave."

"I said I would try, I didn't say I would be successful." Neferti replied, sinking back into the bath water and giving Dan an amused look.

"And I think, I'm going to be more spoiled than your cat." He continued. He didn't really have a problem that however.

Speaking of the cat, Lily was keeping watch in the doorway, idly observing the pair with a superior cat look.

Daniel leaned over and kissed Neferti on the brow. "I'll go put your clothes in the washing machine. Let me know if the clean ones don't fit."

Neferti watched Dan leave and after a few more minutes of relaxing and enjoying the bath, he got up out of the tub, and wrapped a towel around him, dripping onto the floor mats while he did so.
He saw the cat still sitting and turned his eyes to her. "Don't challenge me for him." He told her softly. "He was mine before he was yours.

He looked at the clothes Dan had set down on the toilet-seat and then began to dress. The clothes fit alright, although not quite right. They were about the right length but baggier and plainer than he was used to. He wondered whose they were and why Daniel had them.

Dried, dressed and cleanly clothed, he left the bathroom to go find Daniel.

Dan was currently in the living room, trying to tidy the place up the best he could. But years of living as a bachelor, then the laziness that came with apathy after coming home from Discedo, led to quite a pile up of dust and assorted items - ranging from magazines to books to empty tea cups.

He looked over at Neferti and smiled. "You wanted to see Archie? A proper look this time?"

"you're so proud of it. I would be insulted if You were to deny me now." Neferti replied crouching down to pick up a few old, discarded newspapers and set them on the couch. He wasn't much for tidying but he would try. It was Dan's home afterall. He needed to be mindful.

"Will you fly him for me?" he added hopefully.

"It's all right --" He half-protested as Neferti tried to help. "It's fine, I'll take care of it. You're the guest." Okay, he was rambling just a little, but it was okay - the other man would probably understand.

"Not until it gets dark, unfortunately. The city is on high alert now, even though the worst thing has already happened." Dan shrugged, a helpless gesture. "So I have to be more careful taking Archie out. They tend to shoot first and ask questions later."

Neferti ignored Daniel, continuing to do the little things he could do to help. He wasn't actually much use and he knew that.

"You just need to make Archie invisible." He replied, as if it were something easily accomplished. "Then you could around whenever you like."

"Invisible? Well - I've thought about cloaking devices, but the sheer mass that needs to be concealed... well, it's about the power source, isn't it? Something that large? I don't know - even if I could figure out a way to project some image -- this is not technology I have available to me. Concealing is one thing, but making it invisible... that's another." Daniel said, obviously he'd thought about it.

"For now, you'll have to be patient. We can go down and you can browse around if you want."

Neferti smiled as he listened to Dan talk about what would be necessary to cloak his ship. He liked how he looked when he spoke about it. He brightened. A bit more and he might have been glowing.

"For now." He agreed. "I can be patient for a while. But I can be patient better with a distraction. I would like to see Archie." He said.

Daniel nodded, running a hand through his hair. "Sure, of course. Follow me." He beckoned with a hand, then turned and went back down the steps to the lowest level. The great ship sat with the hatch steps opened.

"I don't know how long I've been gone in real time. I think it was a lot longer than I thought I was in Discedo." He swiped a hand over a dusty table. It had been clean when he left, but then again, it could accumulate fast.

"I'll start running a diagnostic." He eased up the steps into the ship, leaving Neferti to follow at his leisure. Dan settled into the pilot's seat with a sigh; this is where he belonged.

Neferti took his time lookin around the basement turned workshop, taking more time to look at the things Daniel had accumulated and built. It was dangerously close to science, but more like Tom and Joe the Dead's tinkerer's guild. It wasn't connected to an institute so it was alright.

Finally he crept up the hatch and peered inside curiously.

"you amaze me." he said quietly
